Upgrade from a GTX670 or keep it for now?

So currently my PC is:

i5 2500k
ASUS GTX 670 DirectCU II
Gigabyte Z77-D3H mobo
8GB RAM
Samsung SSD 840
Samsung 1GB HDD
Fractal Arc Midi R2 Case

I game as 1920x1080 on one monitor.

I am deciding whether to upgrade to a GTX 970 or hold off for a bit longer.

Game wise only Rome 2 troubles the PC at max settings. I am getting Witcher 3 and really only the new Batman game and Battlefront are on my radar.

So what are people thoughts. Should i upgrade now and sell the 670 while i can get ok money for it, or hold off for a while and see?

No, not overclocked.

I like my PC to be a silent as possible with little hassle, so no watercooling either etc.

Though i may OC it a bit as i read its a good CPU to do it.

Yeah oc it and use a all in one water cooler as there cheap enough and use a silent fan. Should be able to do 4.5ghz easy.

Also no you don't need a newer BIOS I still have one of the earliest and its fine with my 4.5ghz oc with 3570k. Unless u mean for a 970 card as that I wouldn't know but doubt u need one just for a new gfx card.

Isn't Rome 2 bad with fps in general as I know it had issues even with the best hardware when released. Unless they patched it up nice now. Even so I would imagine it would be more CPU limited than GPU limited. Other games dunno but I know bf4 beta worked fine for me on my 670 decently.

Yes for newer GFX cards, this board is famous for not working with newer cards without a BIOS update.

Hmm interesting. Glad u said in case I upgrade next year possibly tho my 670 plays great for me so I'm personally keeping it till I might see second hand 970s maybe go for £140 on mm in a year or so.

Will also need to check the PSU is up to it, but if its powering a 670 is will power most things.

And depending on the card you may have to take a HDD cage out,

Graphics card compatibility: Graphics cards up to 290mm in length with the top HDD cage installed - With the top cage removed, graphics cards up to 430mm in length may be installed

Same for me. Just flashed it with a KGB bios which works really well. Gives a better boost than standard, and doesn't crash Dying Light or Dragon Age Inquisition any more (both games have a known bug where they CTD with an overclocked card).

Interesting, thx for the info folks.

Been looking at some of the GTX 970 cards and like the sound of the MSI 970 Gaming ed and was wondering how quiet are they?

I've been gaming on a 570 recently after selling my 980, and I've been surprised at how little I've really missed the latter. Sure, I'm playing Dragon Age: Inquisition locked at 30fps now, but I'm still enjoying it. I'll definetly end up getting something beefier once AMD's cards are out, but I'm reconsidering whether I really need a 980 Ti or 390X now.
