Whats a decent upgrade from a i7 930 @ 4 ghz? Iv'e had mine since 2008 and its been great but now I get random reboots every 5-10 minutes (narrowed it down to the mobo being faulty). I have a budget of £500 and really only need a mobo, cpu+cooler and memory.

You couple swap out the cooler for an AIO or something else fancier but you don't need to, that cooler will handle a good overclock :) The CPU should see around 4.5ghz overclocked and its easy to do!

My basket at Overclockers UK:

Total: £454.02
(includes shipping: £11.10)

I wouldn't feel very good about the size of my E-peen if I went from an i7 to an i5. I've had 3 i7's in a row now (Bloomfield, Sandy, Haswell). I can't go to an i5. I just can't. It would be wrong.

Get a 6700K.

A new Skylake i5 would easily beat a 1st gen i7, especially as it'll clock higher and run cooler. Plus you get usb 3.1, sata3, m.2 and PCIe 3.0 all native to the chipset.
