I've had my Audio Technica ATH-M50's for a couple of years now and was looking to treat myself to an upgrade.

I really enjoy everything about these headphones, but I'm after something that packs more punch and clarity now, basically an improvement in all areas.

Budget up to £200 (Stretch to £250 if worth it).

Any recommendations? :)

Closed back or open?

Casual gaming movies?

competitive gaming ?

or just music?

What music do you like?

What hardware do you use to drive your headphoens (soundcard/dac/amp)?

Sorry but all of the above will help people offer suggestions

As an all round open back the sennheiser HD598 is a pretty good option Or phillips X1/X2 all come in under £200

For closed back then perhaps consider beyerdynamic DT770 Pro

Need you to answer TwsT's questions ideally. Also need to know if you have a decent source (i.e. do you have a soundcard/amp etc).

K702 > HD598 for open back headphones, imo - especially for gaming.

Answering the questions TwsT has asked will help but if you don't mind going used you can pick up HE-400's for around £250.

Again, what TwsT said.

No one can really answer your question until they know what your needs are. Headphones come in all different flavours.

U or V shaped phones tend to be more aggressive. Lack the focus for vocals with a bass heavy sound. The M50 are closer to this type of sound.

Mid focused headphones tend to be rolled off up top and can be bassy or lean depending on the tuning. I tend to like my vocals seductive and Romantic so rolled up top with a mid bass bloom.

So many different options.

Just for music, Hip-Hop/EDM/R&B/Rap/K-Pop

I'd prefer closed back and noise cancelling

I've got an Asus Xonar D2X soundcard which I'll be using to drive them.

Thanks for the suggestions I will look into them!

right

the D2X has a very weak output signal for headphones it certainly didn't power my PC350's properly so i'd aim for 80ohm or less on impedance
