upgrade from ati 3870 x2 to.....?

Hi Guys,

I have been out of touch for a while.
I am looking to upgrade my gcard, i curently run 3870 x2.
If i had cash i would go for 4870 x2, but cant afford it.

I run core 2 duo E8400
Abit quad x38 mobo
and 4 gigs of ram

I play games at 1900 x 1200

which card would give me better performance?
It does not need to be Ati , i would look into nvidia, its been years since
i had nvidia card, i think they deserve another chance after their Geforce 5800 series debacle

Beat me to it!! 4850x2 is a damn fine card. Gets close to a 4870x2 in some benches

i was considering 4850 x2, but my mobo does not suport newer x2 boards`s from ati due to problem with BIOS, Abit is no more so no bios updates, it has to be single gpu card. All x38 chipset based boards asus and others had that issues, they have fixed it, but with abit going pop no updates for my board

I have seen few unoficcial bios releases that fix this problem, but so far i did not manage to find confirmation that it all works fine.

I would not like to venture into bios updating with no official support available, i dont want to end up with non working pc

mh i dont about u but i know my my asus x38 maximus formula had bios update for 4850x2 and 4870x2.

and if u want single good card get 4890 then much better then 3870x2

A 1gb 4870, 4890's are not worth the exta £50+, as they only a couple or so frames faster.

Although, if you don't want to go second hand, I'd look at a 4870, GTX260-216,

You can pick up GTX280s for £185 now, which is staggeringly good value for money. Radeon 4870X2s weigh in at £220-240 in Members' Market, too...
