Hey all

I've had my Dell 2407WFP for two years now love it. I may have an opportunity to upgrade on the cheap though - my parents want a 24" for their office so I was thinking of giving them mine and then paying the difference on a new monitor.

Are there any monitors out there that would be an upgrade from the 2407? I've done some looking and it seems that most 24 inchers have problems in some area or another, like the input lag on the Dell 2408WFP and wide gamut problems in gaming on the HP LP2475w. I just noticed the new NEC 24WMGX3 price - seems like quite a deal compared to what it was. I mainly use my monitor for gaming as well as general browsing and college stuff. Would the NEC be the best bet? Or should I just stick with the 2407?

Thanks

Good question as i'm in exactly the same position as you.

I have the same old Dell as yours and want to get a new one.

Like you i have my eye on on the NEC and wonder if it will be
a good upgrade.
Mostly will be used for gaming.

Anyone?

If you arent having any issues with the 2407, then why upgrade?

I wouldn't go for the 2408, its got way too many issues.

NEC is a good choice, although I think it has the same panel as 2408, its about how NEC uses that panel and build quality (quality control).

All other 24's seem to have too many issues to me :(

I'm mainly thinking of upgrading since I can do it for ~€140, I wouldn't really bother otherwise. Based on the reviews and feedback it seems like it should be worth that, I think I might just go ahead and order this weekend:D

Quite an old thread but what monitors, 24", are generally better than 2407WFP now?
Tempted to find another 2407 but if there are better monitors out there for the money I'd sell my current one for something better!

Priority usage: photos then movies then games

My only experience with 24"s has been various 2407WFPs and 2408WFPs. I had to get Dell to exchange my original purchase of a 2407WFP several times as some of them had different issues. Amongst all of this RMAing I got my mits on the 2408WFP as a replacement and I must say I thought it was AWFUL. The input lag was absolutely terrible and the colors looked so rich it made my eyes bleed. Suffice to say I was over the moon when the 2407WFP replacement came through like I had requested. Still running strong to this day...

The only 24" panel I have ever seen to match my 2407WFP was the Apple Cinema 23". Damn that was good to look at. Go down to your local Apple store they normally always have 23"s and 30"s setup. Nothing like a bit of Google Earth on a 30" hahaha!

im in the oposite position

i have a 2407 (a04) and im finding it hard trying to find another so i can run dual screens.

i dont want to upgrade to 30" as i find it too big for gaming but i love the dual screen setup, ive tried the 2408 but the colours just arent the same as my 2407 which if your fussy really annoys me.

On topic you could get the 27" dell, id thought about this also as there still 1920x1200.

Yeah ACD are nice to look at but the price is just ridiculous!

So the 2407WFP is still one of the best out there then? Can't find any even on an auction site, can't remember how much I paid for mine when I bought it about 2-3years ago, what's a standard price for a second hand one?

people on the MM seem to ask arround th high 200s for them atm but the only one ive seen sold was arround 220.

On auction sites they seem to sell for 200-220 ish. Im very reluctant to buy a second hand one.

I havent tried any of these hazros or NEC gaming screens but compared to the other dells the 2407 is by far the best.

2407 is a gorgeous monitor.. Why on earth would you want to upgrade it?

I haven't looked at computer hardware for some time so I wasn't sure if there were better monitors out there for a decent price thats all :)

If it's still considered as good as it was when it was released then I'll probably just look for a 2nd but they seem to be like rocking horse ....

edit: Typical, some on an uction site went for £150 and in Manchester, could've checked it out before buying!

I must agree with the others.. why would you want to upgrade such a gorgeous display?
I also have the same monitor as you, and I think I will never ever replace it until something revolutionary comes out !! however, I am thinking of getting another 24'' monitor for CSS (Dell 2407WFP just doesn't quite cut it.) and atm, I am looking at E248WFP to pair it up with my 2407WFP :)

I've owned 3 24'' monitors in the past, The digimate 24 with a PVA panel which was my favourite all around monitor but gone faulty after a while, Hyundai W240D with the TN panel which was great for gaming, but not soo good for movies, and then the Dell 2407WFP, which is the best monitor I've ever owned yet. Gorgeous for movies, just looking at pretty pictures and casual gaming :) (not so good for competetive gaming.)

I went for the NEC in the end and I'm glad I did. It's definitely an upgrade from the 2407WFP - everything is pin sharp and colours are really vivid without being overly rich. Gaming's absolutely brilliant, no lag at all. Plus it's got just about every input you could possibly need which is handy.
