Hi Guys,

With the recent spate of upgarding to SB going on I was wondering is it worth upgrading my other halfs CPU - at the moment its running my old E8500 Core 2 Duo - is it worth picking up a second hand Q6600? Its mainly used for WOW, and media.

The Motherboard is an Asus P5Q model - and would be using the same Zalman aftermarket fan (was very highly rated when I got the E8500)

I don't have the money to spend more than about £100 maximum so wondered if the Q6600 would give a noticable improvement? The Graphics card is my old HD4870 and seems to still be doing a good job for what its being used for.

Any advice much appreciated:)

Q6600 will make bugger all difference in WoW as it has poor multi-threading support. Get that E8500 clocked. In your board it should easily hit 4Ghz+ depending on your ram.

Will have a go - I used to OC it to 3.8Ghz - was wondering if Quad core would be more use where he tends to run multiple programs at once when not on WOW - using all the desktop space on 2 19" monitors :)

Only other option is going for a Q8400 - although the clock speed as standard is still 2.66ghz - so you guys think boosting the E8500 to about 4Ghz will do him fine?
