Hi,

Im after an upgrade to my GTX 660, its still doing OK but recently upgraded to a 1440p monitor and its chugging on some games.

Im after a card that can do 1440p pretty much maxed out and hopefully hit 60fps.

Whatever card must be pretty quiet as well, ie no louder then my 660 which is a Asus windforce model. Oh, and I want to steer clear of any that have the dreaded coil whine.

Budget is up to £250.

I would have normally jumped at the 970 but the difference in vram is the only thing holding me back. Especially with all the fiasco over the actual ram amount. I normally site on the green side but I think this time round the 390 maybe the wiser option.

The likelihood of needing anything more than 3 gig of ram is tiny anyway so actually the 970 is a brilliant option

no 970s out there with guaranteed no coil whine, other then the OCUK one with the 980 cooler?. Im not paying an extra £70 for a card that doesnt whine. Surely none should whine

My 390 is serving well at 1440p. I have experienced loud coil whine, though it only happened for one day . I do get some pretty quiet coil whine however when a game is in the thousands of fps, but its not loud or distracting at all.
