Upgrade from GTX 970 to GTX 1660 Super?

I am currently running the system below and am wondering if replacing the GTX 970 with a GTX 1660 Super would be a sensible upgrade to prolong the useful life of the PC? I have a 34" Dell curved monitor, U3415W @ 3440x1440.

The single fan on the 1660 Super is causing me to question whether I should get a 1660 or 1660 Ti. Does the single fan work OK for cooling the card whilst not being too loud?

How much is your budget and are you willing to consider AMD? The RX 5700 is about twice as fast as the GTX 970.

what FPS are you getting in games with a 970 at 3440x 1440p ?

Budget probably £300-350. Haven't got a problem going AMD. Is th RX 5700 worth the extra money?

Probably not a high number! I don't play many FPS, just things like Far Cry 5, Wolfenstein etc. Does FC5 have a way to tell me in game FPS?

It was about 45 but then I realised the resolution wasn't 3440x1440 but 2560x1080. If I up it to 3440x1440 and put the settings up high, the VRAM meter goes over the 3.95GB to about 4.13GB I think it was and the FPS drops to about 35 on average but did drop to 21 when I was moving around. The graphics still didn't look brilliant, for example, the road markins went very lo-res a few meters in front of the car.

The 5700 XT looks good. I notice it needs a 6 pin and an 8 pin power connector. My 970 uses 2 x 6 pins so I'll have to check my PSU to see if I have a spare 8 pin connector available. Is the equivalent nVidia card for the 5700 XT's price not worth it over the AMD card?

If you can up your budget you could get a 2070 super that offers 1080ti performance or you could pick up a used 1080ti for £350 if you are lucky.

I run a 1080ti at 3440x 1440 and it’s sweet as a nut

A resounding YES. At 350$, tho, you might snag a 5700XT. Check out the sale in ocuk. I upgraded from GTX 1060 to the 5700. Twice as fast and about same power consumption when i undervolt.

That PSU has all the cables needed for sure. I have an evga 850W B2 and it handled a couple of R9 290s.

970s only really have 3.5gb of VRAM. The final .5gb is much slower and if you’re using it performance will suffer.
