looking to upgrade for battlefield 3.currently have 2 gtx470's sli,but maybe want to go to single gpu.so what would you buy for a decent upgrade in performance

p.s,will be watercooling whatever i get

On the nvidia side, too see any decent improvement youd be looking at possibly the dual gpu gtx 590. What you have is quite a bit faster than a single gtx 580. Gtx 470 sli copes pretty well with bf3 on high settings. Id personally wait till the next generation is released. Or wait to see what others have to say about ati cards.

They wont run bf3 on ultra at a decent rate, especially if you apply any aa. Im running at 1920x1200, settings on high.

well since changing motherboards from a gigabyte ga-p67a-ud7-b3 to an asus maximus iv extreme-z i can't get sli to work.very strange.it runs ok till i try to enable sli.it then reverts to 1600x1200 instead of 1920x1200.nvidia control consol locks up for a while and i have to uninstall the drivers and start again.windows keeps stopping one of the cards as it reported a problem, but it's not always the same card.i've used driver sweeper to clean any nvidia stuff and tried different drivers.also tried different sli bridges

If you're after a single gpu and an improvement in performance, then it looks like waiting for the next generation is your only option.

470's in sli is still a monster setup

To get better performance from a single card you would need to get a Radeon 6990 or GTX 590, and strictly speaking these are two cards squeezed onto 1 pcb.

You would really have to wait till the next gen releases (AMD 7000 series or Nvidia 600 series) to see better performance from a single card

you got your 470's overclocked? then you've effectively got GTX 480 SLI:D

i'm gonna be upset if my boys won't crunch through BF3 on ultra!

the problerm i'm getting is since i fired up my new board i can't get sli to run.there seems to be other ppl with the same problem but i can't find an answer or fix

They are clocked, 750/1500/1674. Stock core speed is 630mhz, (gigabyte factory oc cards). Dont run HBAO/SSAO or motion blur, got aa post on medium, aa deferred off, all else on high with 16x af.

Just tried ultra with HBAO/SSAO off, motion blur off, medium aa post, deferred off and 16xaf, pleasantly surprised as i never seen it dip below 70fps, hitting 130fps + in parts, res at 1920x1200.
