I've a feeling my GTX480 is giving up the ghost, It's running insanely hot (More than normal) and I've had it simply refuse to give a picture a few times,

What is my best option to upgrade to? I'm thinking around £200

AMD ?

members market..
R9 290's been going for £200 and less

even HD7970 have been going for around £110 which is a cracking card for the £££££

I upgraded from a 480 to a then still-quite-expensive 7970 GHz edition and was quite satisfied with the jump in performance and noise reduction (my 480's in my sig  ).
Since the 280X is basically a re-brand I'm thirding that suggestion

Tried cleaning it?

^^^This the amount of "£$% I pulled out of mine the other month was incredible!

GTX 480`s are like iron bridges, built to last I have even lost a heat sink on one of my mem chips.
Its still rocking and will keep me warm this winter! :p

I loved my old GTX480. Overclock the nuts off of it and it ran happily at 100 degrees under load while sounding like a jet engine for years. :D

It softened the rubber on my CLC pipes and warped my side panel. :D

One of the best cards I have owned, along with the GTX8800! ;)

I need a new monitor before I upgrade as am at 1680x1050. So most games run fine! ;)

A fresh dose of thermal paste did wonders for my gtx480's. The standard stuff is quite poor. Especially after a few years

I can confirm that when I changed the paste on my GTX480, the core temps dropped by about 7 degrees. :)

The only difference is that I just overclocked it even more, so that it ran at 100 degrees anyway, but with a few more MHz..... :p

Definitely my two favourite cards.

The 480 was like an american muscle car. Completely OTT and devil-may-care. Loved it.

I did have to change the cooler to a Zalman though (this was before my watercooling days), the noise was insane.

My 480 is still going strong even with a fan hanging off. Cleaning it out really helped with temps.

Tempted to change soon as well but I feel reluctant while its still trying so hard to impress:)

performance wise it`ll be `on par` with a GTX 750Ti iirc - but as said , take it apart and clean it! a fresh dose of tpaste and de dust , it`ll be like new ;)

I got a GTX 670OC to replace mine :D
