Hi,

I currently have a GTX 770 4gb which is getting a bit slower for my liking. The 4gb is keeping it manageable.
I play at 1080p 60hz, I cant see me upgrading my monitor for a some time due to cash flow.
I mainly play IL2 Battle for stalingrad, Squad, DCS and on the odd occasion Doom. I would like it to run Star Citizen but by the time thats released we will probably have holographic displays.

I did try an ASUS rx480 dual which I had to RMA (3rd ASUS AMD i have RMA'd).
I was hoping for advice between trying either the Sapphire Nitro 480, powercolour red devil or going for a 1060 6gb, probably the single fan EVGA.

Im running a Corsair 650W Gold so Im sure PSU should be no issue.

Thanks

Either will give a noticeable boost in performance (~40-50%).

The Powercolor card you mention is a very good choice if going for a 480.

What CPU do you have?

As above both good choices and will see significant performance gains bang for buck.

What MB will it be going into? I've found that the Nvidia is less problematic in older boards (i.e. p67 age) as they draw less power than their AMD counterpart (less stress on old gen 2 PCIe slots) - may be something to consider if you're placing in into an old system.

If it's going into a relatively new board - advice above is solid - you'll enjoy the boost of either flavour.

If I was buying a 480 my first choice would be an XFX GTR, second choice would be the Powercolor Devil.

I wouldn't touch an Asus or MSI AMD card unless it was a proven quality card as I think they cut corners when developing coolers for AMD cards and use components that were originally designed for their Nvidia cards. The Twin Frozr IV and DCUII Hawaii cards being good examples.

I should haven mentioned the rest of the setup. Im running a 6600k (stock speeds presently). Asrock Z170 K6 mobo. Power draw is a consideration as I like cheaper builds but not a big enough factor.

My basket at Overclockers UK:

Total: £499.48
(includes shipping: £10.50)

Have used the 480, small and well cooled and didnt find loud at all with latest bios, easy to flash to :)

and since you mentioned EVGA single fan, like version. Custom PCB with heatpipes in the cooling design, which is why its a little on the fat side

considering you can buy a brand new 1070 for £350, I would seriously consider that rather than a 480 or 1060. Get one of them bad boys, you'll be enjoying it and playing games at highest details for a very long time.

I agree with this unless you going for a 480 at under 200.

A 1070 would be nice, however £350 is too rich for me! I went for the Powercolour Devil whilst it was £210, about £30 cheaper than the 1060 atm.. hopefully I wont regret it, I've normally had Nvidia..
