Hi.

I am looking to buy a mobo, ram and cooler for my Xeon 2699v4.

I wanted to know what motherboard ram cooler combo you would go for?

I am looking at the gigabyte x99 P5 which is reduced at the moment.

I rarely game. It's a work station.
VMs.
Plex 4k transcoding.

Just want some ideas what other techs would get?

Thanks.

Cal.

Difficult one, personally if i owned that cpu a reduced price on the board wouldn't influence my choice, i would be looking at the board with the best power and Vrm's, its a beast of a cpu and you dont want to be power throttling as it would negate any advantage of such a high threaded cpu

I have emailed Gigabyte asking that very question about power throttling.

I think xeon 2XXX have to be used in dual socket boards.

there's a 1680 v2 which is 8 cores and overclockable which you could use with your existing board.

I'd go with something Intel C612 based, probably a SuperMicro board. For RAM lots of ECC and for cooling maybe a Swiftech 240-X.
