Upgrade from i7 950

Morning all,

I currently have an i7 950 which is running at 4.3ghz, which i've had for the past 3-4 years.

I'm looking to upgrade the motherboard, CPU & cooler to see me through the next few years, as well as selling my current setup before the bottom falls out of the price. I tend to play a lot of ArmA and the 950 is starting to show its age.

I'd hope to get around £200 from the sale of my existing mobo, cpu and cooler.

Current setup is as follows.

i7 950
ASUS P6X58D PREMIUM
XFX Black Edition 7970
6GB KINGSTON HYPER-X 1600MHz, X.M.P (3 x 2GB KIT, I have an extra 2gb stick of this lying around)
COOLIT ECO A.L.C (enclosed liquid cooler jobbie)
128GB M4
CORSAIR HX1000 1000W PSU

Which is all in an Antec 902 V3 which i hate.

The items in bold i'd keep.

Im toying with the idea of telling you to keep what you have and get a new case.

But new hardware is always nice and those three parts you listed are mint.

I say go for it, I made a small upgrade to a i7 2600k from a 4ghz i7 920 for cheap just because i play Arma and for me it does handle it better so yeah...

pull the trigger mate, i just bought a b grade z87x oc for 80 quid going to pair it with 4770k and water cool, looked at geekbench scores, and were talking a serious improvement......

Thats a good deal on the Z87X OC, out of interest what parts were missing? was it a brown box job?

too tall not sure order this morning will receive tomorrow, for £80 tho if its in a brown box its still a cracking buy...........

bearing in mind i have an asus rampage 3 with i7 920 at the moment and only sata 2 and usb 2 so even the upgrade to sata 3 and usb 3 will substanially help me with what i do

as normal it comes down to individual circumstances but for me it will be a big real world difference especially with the usb3 file transfer....
