Upgrade from Nec 24WMGX3?

Hey there,

I've been quite confused as to what will be a worthy upgrade from my current monitor, a 1200P (1920x1200) 24" NEC 24WMGX3.

I'm quite keen to get a freesync monitor, and have strongly considered the BENQ x2730z and Asus MG279Q.

I'm quite put off by all the RMA's Ive read about for both the BenQ and Asus - the build quality seems to be very hit and miss, with the chances of getting a 100% working one very slim.

I'm quite disappointed that NEC seem to have no freesync monitors available - my previous two monitors have been NEC and have been superb quality and are still working to this day (20WGX2 and current 24WMGX3).

I'm debating whether to wait for '2nd' generation of freesync monitors - which I assume would have more advanced scalers, allowing a wider range of variable refresh rate.

My current monitor is still working perfectly, has no backlight bleed, though obviously is only a 60Hz screen which ghosts a little in games, though I'm very used to this, having owned the monitor for 7+years.

Any advice would be most welcome, especially in regard to which type of panel I'd find the most similar to my current AMVA panel.

Hi

I upgraded my NEC to one of these almost exactly a year ago. For just about all my day-to-day use its a bigger version of the NEC. All the text and icons is the same physical size, I just get to have a lot more of it, the panel has a very similar feel to it.

Gaming is pretty similar too. Purists will likely see a little ghosting, but most of what I play isn't FPS so that was not going be an issue.

There is a BenQ version of this as well - I held out for the Samsung as I trusted the brand name more.

The NEC is still going strong - the wife grabbed it for plugging her laptop into it. Bought that as one of my first purchases from overclockers.

Thanks for the reply, the 30" you linked seems a solid monitor.

I think I'm going to wait for the next generation of freesync monitors, or until a freesync monitor launches that has much less reported RMA's and general build quality problems.

I'm quite keen to tryout freesync, though I'm not keen to drop £500 on a sub par backlight bleeding machine, I want it to be perfect like my current NEC was/is for that money etc.
