upgrade from q6600

The Core i3-3220 looks like a good CPU for the price, but is worth upgrading to it from my Q6600!!

been looking for links regarding the Core i3-3220 and BF3 performance.

OP, have you considered selling your current kit to fund the extra budget?

If so, then I'd highly suggest going for a 3570K + D3H. The following looks good:

yep, and the 3570K is on offer tomorrow only for £150
tempted get the a 7970 thats also on offer for £199 but that maybe overkill for 1080p gaming.. I am sure my Q6600 is holding back my 6950

I assume the Gigabyte Z77-D3H will allow for decent OC of a i5, or are there other boards in the price range I should have a look at..

gonna read a few reviews of Gigabyte Z77-D3H later

I have already answered this and there are benchmark comparisons posted above by at least 2 of us. In my personal opinion, no way. I would rather keep the Q6600. But it is your decision. I wouldn't settle for less than an i5 3570K.

Those offers apply to the OcUK store in Newcastle only. Not online buyers. It is to celebrate the opening of the new shop.

just checked the ddr3 that I have and it's only 10666, so may chuck 16GB into the build
any recommendations?

not sure what cooler to get the Xigmatek Dark Knight SD-1283 Night Hawk Edition gets some mixed reviews regarding noise

case will be my old antec 182 unless I get a BitFenix Ghost or P280! lol

You have to go i5. I went from a 3.15ghz q6600 to a 2500k @ 4.0ghz and I can tell the difference in games. I wouldn't get an i3, for me that's a backward step. Have you tried to oc the CPU much?

If you only have a limited budget just use the stock heatsink for now, put the money into the cpu and motherboard, go with 8gb memory and upgrade to 16gb if you wish later + a better cooler.

i5 3570k and a D3H for sure, if you're buying memory honestly don't mull it over too much you'll be happy with any of the kits from a reputable brand (corsair, geil, kingston etc)
