Hi All,

Currently using a build of asus rog strix b350-f gaming mobo with r2600 at 4.2ghz all cores, team group 3000 mhz ram and msi rx 580. I game at 1440p with 144hz monitor. Some details off but it works ok.

Thinking of upgrading but really dont want to spend much so my question is that should i stick to the cpu+mobo combo and just get a new gpu (thinking about a 6800) or do i need an upgrade to say 3600 if i can get a deal and update mobo bios and also get a new gpu - concerned about bottlenecks and the need to upgrade the cpu.

Thanks

I upgraded from a 2600 to a 3600, I noticed my frames didn't drop so low, nor as frequently, when playing games such as Warzone and Hell Let Loose.

The 3600 is the king of budget performance in my opinion. Some might say to go for a 3700X instead, purely depends on your budget.

When I upgraded it only essentially cost me £40 so was worth it. That gap has probably widened now.

You really need something more powerful than a RX580 at 1440p 144hz.

I've just been running one at 1080p 144hz, and I had to turn everything to low in warzone to maintain a 90-100fps.

I see, the question i really want to know about is whether its worth upgrading from 2600 to 3600 along with a new gpu? Keen on the upcoming 6800 but that appears to be around 2080ti performance so essentially you are looking at 2600 being paired with a ti. Are there bottlenecks at 1440p with that combo?

Like said already, for that res and refresh a new GPU would help massively, the RX 580 is a 1080/60 card.

But, it will bottleneck at 144 with a 2600, no doubt about that. I'd still get the GPU first though, because it will make more difference.

With a RTX 2080ti @1440p you would gain about 3% fps going from a 2600 to a 3600 and about 10% going with a 5600X.

To put into perspective going from a 6800 to a 6800XT looks like a 15% gain

Right so rather than starting a new thread, i think its just better to stick to this one and ask.

So after the reviews and the inability to find a 6800, i have got more questions in my head now.

I still prefer the 6800 series over the RTX as i really don't care much about DLSS or RTX at this moment in time and since both series are insanely difficult to hold of right now I just want to know the options i should consider and make use of the deals next week.

Option 1 -- go for a partial overhaul -- find (somehow) 5600x + 550 motherboard deal + 3600 mhz RAM + a new gpu. Keep the hard drives, case, power supply (650 W Gold seasonic). Costly upgrade route i'd rather avoid but can consider.
Option 2 -- Upgrade to 3600 if i find a decent deal and get a new GPU (somehow)
Option 3 -- Stay on 2600 and all else same and just try to get the new 6800 and tide myself over and then upgrade the rest later on when stocks/prices are feasible.
Option 4 -- Stay on 2600 and all else same and go for an older entry like the 2070/2080 if i can find a economical deal

Any suggestions?
