Hi guys

Looking at upgrading from my Vega 64, I have a 3440x1440p 100hz Freesync screen so I'm thinking I should stay with AMD but how much of an upgrade is the 5700XT?

Been looking at a 2080 as well, can live without Freesync I guess if need be.

Rest of rig is a 3800x and an x570, so the added PCIE4 benefit of 5700XT but I guess it's actually a non issue anyhow as the card will probably gain nothing from PCIE4

Mainly play Elder Scrolls Online and Division 2 and occasionally Battlefield games.

Any thoughts?

I'd probably say 2080S as I don't think the 2070S (or 5700XT) would be that much of a jump over the V64.

I'd certainly make sure that your screen Freesync works with nVidia cards first though before deciding.

Hi,

Don't upgrade now as it is too soon for you. Wait nvidia's 7nm and AMD's RDNA2 things next year.

No, not if you can get a good deal on the 2080. Would be a good option whilst not going crazy with the budget.

My screen supposedly works with G-Sync, so that's an option, may just keep my eyes peeled for a decent 2080 deal, can probably hold out til Black Friday, not sure if AMD are going to release anything better than the 5700XT as that would probably be my ideal upgrade.

Radeon VII just isn't appealing for me, and the 5700XT seems like it may not be a big enough upgrade for the price.

Hmm may well just hold out for now then til Black Friday and see if anything comes to temp me

I would not loose freesync personally and i would just wait for new AMD cards due to release either late this year or early next year.
If you can't wait then 5700XT is your only option. You could sell your VEGA and upgrade to 5700xt and the upgrade won't cost you a lot.

if you need the horse power now then RTX 2800 or 2080TI are your best option, would not bother with 2080s.

Your FreeSync monitor might be GSync compatible, ive got the BenQ EX3501R (3440x1440) which is, and it works fine without issue, went from a 64 (liquid cooled), to a 2070 Super, and very happy, rest of spec in sig. :)

Wait for next year unless you have cash to burn. You're not really gonna feel you're upgrading below a 2080S & even then only kinda. Gotta wait for a 2080ti-like jump imo.

Wait for the 5800 or 5900. The 5700 XT is a great card, but in your case it probably isn't a big enough leap in performance for the price.

We know AMD has faster cards coming either late this year or early next. I wouldn't buy anything right now, especially with the current level of gouging. ;)
