Upgrade GPU or build a new system?

My current system is:
Intel i3 530 overclocked @ 4.20
4 gig RAM
ATI 5850

It's done me very well for a few years but with games such as Guildwars 2 and the DayZ mod that I play daily is really is starting to struggle. In both those games I'm averaging around 30 to 40 FPS and I notice it a lot with the mouse feeling laggy with the screen. Would I see a big improvement from a complete new system like an i5 overclocked with a better graphics card? or is the i3 still ok for games and I would only really need a new GFX card?

The PC would be for gaming 95% of the time and 5% for very little video editing and encoding for Youtube etc.

Anyone give me some advice? Would I be wasting money with a new system? would upgrading only my GFX card make my current i3 be the bottleneck?

I actually posted this very question on another forum and the advice I got was to just upgrade the GFX card as I wouldn't see much of an increase in performance with an i5 if it's just for gaming.

It's hard to tell if it will be 'worth it' because it's your money you will be spending. How much would you be willing to spend if it's a new system? What components would you want to reuse?

Thank you Tamzzy for the fast reply,

My next question would be what would be a decent GPU to stick in that machine? I don't mind spending the cash on something decent but I wouldn't want to waste money by going over the top and making the GPU suffer because the CPU is a bottleneck etc. I have no allegiance to either ATI or Nvidia so either brands are fine with me.

Thank you in advance for any advice given.

Well I would have a budget of around £800 to £900 for a new system and would only be reusing my hard discs.

I currently run all my games in 1680x1050 and mostly with 4xAA and 8XAF.

Wow this forum moves fast and is hard to keep up with the replies lol.

Thanks.

with that budget, i'd say get the gtx670 then.

YOUR BASKET
1 x Gigabyte GeForce GTX 670 Windforce 3X 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £339.95
Total : £350.75 (includes shipping : £9.00).

especially the windforce version of the gxt670 ;p

if you still find it too slow for your liking, then upgrade the system.
but the gtx670 will give a nice boost to your fps

edit: you have an ssd right? if not, you should get one. the difference is like night and day (even though it does nothing for your fps ;p)
