Hi all,

I am about to go on a miniature spending spree to upgrade my current system. My question is... do you think my current graphics card is adequate to play latest games (i'm looking at GTA IV specifically) at a med-high level?

Current system:
AMD64 3500+
Abit AT8
4 x 512MB (PC3200)
ATI X1800XT (256MB)

Proposed system:
Intel Core 2 (Quad) 6600 2.4ghz
Asus P5Q
2 x 2048MB (PC2-6400)
ATI X1800XT (256MB)

Also, any thoughts on what i might get if i tried to sell the original system minus graphics card?

Thank you all kindly,

Fergcu.

Thanks for the info - although you'll have to forgive me - i've been out of 'the game' for a while. What's i7, and which prices would it affect? And if i were to look at upgrading graphics card, what would you recommend at ~£100 mark?

Thanks again,

Fergcu

ahhh - nehalem. Thought that was coming out next year. Hmm... Good recommendation - will hold off for a month or so, and see what happens.

Thanks,

Fergcu

quote from wiki, "The first processor released with the Nehalem architecture is the desktop Core i7,[2] to be released in Q4 2008." When this is out, you should see a price drop on all Core2's.

GFX card really depends on what you plan to play and at what rez, you could always buy a 8800GT 2nd hand for around 50 quid which is adequate in playing most games. GTA will proberly run on a 4850 at 1600x1200, but bare in mind that's minimum for good performance, depends on your budget really.
