Upgrade graphics or not

Hi guys, i'm looking for some advice about my sons pc.
He mostly plays world of warcraft, and has the graphics on lowest settings to get it to run smoothly, some other game he plays wont run at all, and he has to use my pc to play it.
My question is, would upgrading the graphics card make any significant difference, or would i be better looking into getting a new tower.

Specs are,

AMD Sempron 2800+ 1.60 ghz
1.5gb ram
radeon 9250 graphics card (think its AGP)
winfast 760 GXK8MC Motherboard

Regards

you would need a new tower, nothing can be done with that im afraid.

is there a budget in mind for the tower? do you need a copy of windows? can you re-use the case/optical drive(if its a dvd one?)?

+1

if that system is socket a based then WoW is fairly cpu dependent and your not going to get a powerful enough cpu for that socket. :(

*edit just checked and its skt 754 but you are still in the same boat as you can't get any dual core cpu's for that either :(

Probably about £500 budget, i probably could use the case and i have a copy of windows vista that i could use, i'll have a look at the dvd drive to see what type it is.

I think we should try and spec it up for him to have windows 7 as opposed to vista. I know he says he's already got vista, but windows 7 is miles better and lets face it, home premium 64-bit is only like £80 now.

I wouldn't go that far.

Thats still £80 on top of the budget when what he has will do fine.

I'm on Vista, hell, all my friends are on Vista, never had an issue. Sure W7 is a bit less of a hog but it hardly makes a difference!

And look at the problems you had trying to get Need for speed carbon to run:D

hmmm,i'd go with stulids second option with win 7 added.that is a massive upgrade for your son.that will play anything thrown at it and you'll have his never ending love.

Chipps has a good point actually, I've just found Microsoft Windows 7 Professional 64-bit Upgrade Edition for £39.78 online. So could be worth shopping around a bit.

Maybe that's why you can't get your ethernet working :p
