Hi all,

I have been toying with the idea of upgrading for some time now, I have:

Asus Striker Ex 1
Intel QX6800 @ 3.8GHz
8GB -PC2-9200 / 1150 MHz
SLi 8800GTX's BFG OC
Creative X-Fi Ex audio
BeQuiet 1200W PSU
300GB Velocity Raptor
2x 1.5TB WD Green
1x 500GB WD Black

PA120.3 Thermochill Rad with the best fans
Swiftech MCP655 (D5)
EK Cleartop X2 for each 8800
D-Tek Fuzion CPU Block,.

I have a Lian-Li PC201 which i am looking to replace with a TJ-07.

I am torn with what to do, I am having low FPS in Black OP's but i have had ongoing heat problems with my Striker, the only thing i am lacking in my eyes is an SSD, So that's on the Xmas list.

I don't know if i should buy a new board, cpu, ram and go the i7 950 route + a new GFX card, a 580 or a 5870. OR, do i just replace my pair of 8800s with a single high end GFX card and wait for Sandy Bridge?

In-fact do i get a single GPU or should i go down the SLi or CF route?

HELP

Thanks Mp, as i thought would be the case, its allways interesting to read others views and advice.

If you can wait for 6970, go for that.

If not, stick a 6870 or 470 in for now. When you eventually upgrade your mobo/ram/cpu, carry the 6870/470 over and pair it up. Seems a sensible upgrade path to me :)

Not sure if it's confirmed yet (dont think so) - have a look in the graphics card section. It's before the end of the year though, further delays notwithstanding.

ohh, as soon as that, great. i will ride it out then, i think that is the route i shall go down, as the rest of the PC is still pretty powerful.

+1 for the keep everything, upgrade GPU option.

If you plan to £200 or more, then waiting for the AMD 6900 series makes a lot of sense. Last I heard it will be coming out in the week of December 13th.

It would also make sense to keep one of your 8800GTX cards for PhysX duties if you go for a fast single card.

ohh i never thought of an 8800GTX PhysX engine, i really dont know now, i love the idea of SLI and CrossFire but i hate paying the electric bill!

I think the most sensible option would be to wait untill the new ATI card is here and then think on this again.
