I am now thinking of upgrading from the spec listed below but have got hopelessly out of touch with the current state of play so would appreciate some help and advice.
The primary ‘power’ use will be for FSX and I would like to attempt some overclocking.
I’ve had trouble in the past with temps due I suspect to poor ventilation in the room (which I am improving) so would like to consider water cooling.
My initial thoughts have come up with the following possibilities but please feel free to wade in!

Gigabyte Z77X-UD5H Intel Z77 motherboard – seems to be highly thought of and I like the idea that it can be RMA’d to this country – nothing like optimism!
Intel i7-3770K @ 3.50GHz processor
OCZ Vertex 4 SSD – 128Gb for system – but I seem to detect a Samsung fan base!

Ideal water cooling recommendations.
Processor fan – nice and quiet please!
Would I be able to use the existing ram?
Any other obvious pitfalls?

Many thanks.

Currently:

is there a particular reason you want the i7 over the i5 3570K ?

other ssd to consider is the crucial m4.

yes you can use the existing ram, if your looking to sell the old kit might be worth selling the memory with it and getting 2x4gb.

if you go for a processor cooler have a look at the Alpenföhn K2 Mount Doom or for a cheaper version have a look at the Gelid Tranquillo.

He's basically just saying the I5 would be plenty fast enough, i went I7 though if for no other reason than i wanted to. as for the SSD's the difference between most of them in real terms rather than benches is minimal/not noticeable in day to day use.

The spec on the mobo suggests it does not support 2000Mhz on the ram.
