Current PC

CPU - Ryzen 1600
Motherboard - Gigabyte GA-AB350-Gaming 3 ATX AM4
Ram - Corsair Vengeance LPX 16gb (2x8) DDR4-3000 CL15
Storage - Samsung 850 Evo 2.5 500GB SSD + 3TB Toshiba HDD
GPU - ASUS 1060 6GB
PSU - EVGA SuperNOVA 650 W 80+ Gold
Monitor - ASUS TUF Gaming VG289Q 28 Inch 4K 60HZ

So this was my first PC which I built in 2017. I want to play modern games like FF7 Rebirth, Cyberpunk, Dragon Age, BG3 in 4K at 60fps so it's time to upgrade.

I was thinking of upgrading my CPU to the 5700x3D (£191 + £40 cooler needed) or a 5600x (£99 Cooler included I think). As my monitor can only support up to 60FPS and I'll probably be playing at 4K I'm not sure if it's worth going for the 5700x3d. What do you suggest would be the better choice.

For the GPU I was thinking of upgrading to either the 5080 or 5070 TI. I think I will be forced to go for the 5070 TI however as I think I will need to replace the PSU as well if I wanted the 5080.

Does a 5700x3D/5600X + 5080/5070 TI pairing make sense? I've never upgraded a PC before.

Also is it as simple as just replacing the CPU and GPU or is there anything else to be aware of. I have a 2TB M2 SSD which I plan on installing.

Finally is it hard to get mid level cards like the 5070 TI at the start? Will I be waiting months for supply?

Edit - I also plan on adding another 16gb RAM. I have put this all together on PCParts Picker and with a 5700x3d + 5070 TI Im coming up at 590 Watts. Is that okay with a 650W PSU or is it too close?

Hi and welcome.

CPU is certainly needed either 5600 or the x3d if you want the best performance in that platform but both will require a bios update to run on your motherboard.

You don't need to spend £40 on a CPU cooler a £20 thunderbolt get assassin king or peerless assassin £30 is more than enough.

GPU upgrade is pretty straightforward just need to check if your PSU is enough for the GPU you choose.

Memory 16gb is the minimum these days for gaming so you may want to look at upgrading that also.

If may be wiser to upgrade to AM5 like a 7600 CPU, 32gb ddr5 6000mhz and b650 motherboard just depends if your capable of doing do.

4k 60hz you want the best GPU you can afford as some games like Alan Wake 2 hammer GPU performance.
