Hi all, wonder if I could see what you good folks would recommend for my old system...

I have an E8400, 4Gb ram on a P45 board. 64Gb M4 SSD + drive for storage. I have recently noticed it struggling with video editing. I have an HD7850 in there too and occasionally game and it seems fine on medium settings.

I'm keen to improve the video editing aspect only and am considering the move to a i5 or i7. I dont need case/PSU/keyboard/OS or anythings else. So motherboard, ram, cpu and if you think it would help I would consider a replacement SSD's.

Budget no more than £500 please. Thoughts? Thanks in advance.

You could drop a Q9550/9650 quad core in that board which would be around £50. Now is a extremely bad time to change to a i5/i7 with the 4690k costing a ridiculous £200 for a retail version (£188 for oem) and a 4790k costing £270/282 (oem/retail). Dropping a quad in may tide you over until Intels next gen is released although I dread to think how much they will be.

Add 4gb you need ideally at least 8gb for comfortable video editing. It needs RAM more than anything else. New CPU will just speed up processing. Video card will do little unless its something like an Nvidia with Cuda Support in your software.
