Hello guys,

Thinking of treating myself to a upgrade, Looking to spend no more than 400 quid if possible and i would like to try the Intel route this time as i have always used AMD in the past. My current computer specs are ...

AMD 955
Asus Crosshair 3
8GB Viper Ram DDR3
Corsair H70
Thermaltake 750 Watt psu
Thermaltake gaming case
MSI 580 GeForce

I might want to SLI in the future so i will need that feature. I guess ill need to upgrade my PSU because of the new CPU and current GPU. Plus i have only 60GB SSD so might need to upgrade that to.

Any advise would be great.

Cheers guys,
Paul

If you want to save as much as you can to spend on better parts; I think you could quite possibly save your DVD drive, case, PSU and even the DDR3 RAM!

What model exactly is the PSU? I just found the Thermaltake Toughpower XT 750W on their website, if it is that then it has 70A on the 12v rail which is plenty of juice and you can re-use it. :)

If for some fantastic reason you can re-use everything, then all you need is the CPU, Mobo and GPU. Which you could look into something like the below (which is a tad over but would be worth it!)..

YOUR BASKET
1 x Intel Core i5-3570K 3.40GHz (Ivybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor (77W) - Retail £184.99
1 x Gigabyte ATI Radeon HD 7850 OC Windforce 2X 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card w/ FARCRY3, Nexuiz, Sleeping Dogs & Dirt Showdown PC Games £149.99
1 x Gigabyte Z77-D3H Intel Z77 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard £83.99
Total : £418.97 (includes shipping : FREE).

Thanks for the reply Sparx,

Yes you are correct, I do currently have the Thermaltake Toughpower XT 750W and all the parts to my computer are all in full working order. I would not require the GPU as i am currently running a GeForce nVidia 580 and possibly going to buy another in the future.

My case is the Thermaltake Element V so will be plenty big enough for whatever i throw in it.

All my comment got answered before I had chance to post :( bloody phone
A 7850 would be a bit of a downgrade wouldn't it?

I think Stulid meant the z77x-d3h

So you think the current PSU will be okay with the i5 and the GPU ? Know ill be looking at 1k+ if i was to go SLI in the future but would be nice to save a few pennies until that time.

Okay cool.

One last question. I no longer have the box for my Corsair H70 and i know that the back plate for Intel was it in. Do i need to goto Corsair and request the part or is it a generic part?

What dont Samsung make anymore lol. Looks like a nice product and still leaves me with about 20 quid so will cover a new mouse mat i think aslong as there are no other suggestions on Mobo

Sky's the limit with motherboards, the Z77X-D3H is great, have a look at the specs, if its got everything you need then you don't need to look any further.
If you feel your missing something, post back and we can find an alternative.
