The 7600gs is a better card for pretty much the same money.

Not really. I'd say the 7600gs is a bit better than the x1600, which from what I've heard was [No swearing!] poor. The x1650 on the other hand is muuuch better, comparable to the 7600gt.

reading another upgrade thread, a Palit 7600GS with DDR3 could overclock and give performance close to that of a 7600GT, that way you get a cheaper better solution. But Overclock not a dead cert, card may not play. Less risk is to go 7600GT at 117 Quid from OCuK is great value....

No, on PCI-Express, the 7600 GS is A LOT better than the X1600 Pro, a fair amount better than the X1650 Pro (but not a lot depending which benches you use) and ONLY the X1650 XT is comparable to the 7600 GT.

On AGP the 7600 GS is a lot better the X1600 Pro, more than a fair amount faster than the X1650 Pro (which for some reason on AGP uses 800 Mhz DDR2 instead of the 1300 Mhz DDR3 on PCI-E) and there is no X1650 XT.

7600 GS is a better buy in the price bracket (on either socket), then on PCI-E a 7600 GT or X1650 XT, and AGP a 7600 GT.

Even better though is the AGP X1950 Pro which unusually isn't that more than the PCI-E version and worth the extra over the 7600 GT imo.
