Hi all

Well it's been ages since I posted here, but here goes.

I'm looking to upgrade my current PC before my next build at the end of the year.

I'm currently running
3500+ Winchester
2GB Ram
6800GT
Akasa 460W PSU.

I want to upgrade the CPU and the Graphics card for now (and that'll be the end of it until the next build).
Looking at a 4000+ (i.e. single core) and a 7800GS (512mb).

My question is two-fold.

1. Will my PSU be able to handle the extra load for both parts?
2. How big is the PCB of the 7800? I've got a Coolermaster case (not stacker), and whilst space is not limited, I'd prefer to get a card on the same length as the 6800GT.

Cheers

Thanks guys.

From memory, my PSU almost identical to this model:

There's no LED however, and I don't remember the "Paxpower" being in the name when I bought it. But for all intents and purposes, this is the PSU.

With regards to the X2 3800+, will I need to flash the BIOS if I install a DC CPU?
And does this mean I'll have to re-install Windows at all?

I didn't know the GS was AGP only. Guess I'll check that GT out then.

My monitor is the new Samsung 22", so I do intend running at 1680 x 1050.
I've heard more memory helps at higher resolutions?

Thanks very much. The quick reviews I've done on that ATI card sound pretty good.

My motherboard is in my signatuire - a Gigabyte GA-K8NXP-9 (nForce 4 chipset).

It's been a few years since I delved into PC hardware, and it's all moved so quickly!
