With 939 X2 chips coming end of life do you think I should pickup a X2 939 chip? I'm using a 3700+ 2.2ghz single core A64 in the HTPC. Only the more demanding 1080p movies are close to 100% usage with this CPU. The rest of the time cpu usage is around 30-60%, including scaling.

I can get AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200 for £75. I have a 4400X2 already in the HTPC.

Yes imo if your paying sub £90 for x2 939, you will notice a diff. Would'nt suggest anyone pay over this amount for one new tbh. :)

Sweet, sounds like the 3700+ is doing a good job and you say its only running at 2.2GHz, don't fancy squeezing a bit more out of it then?

Well depends on what you will get out of it with regards to needs (which you state above), gaming wise not really worth it. But in saying that; went from 4000+ o/c 2.9ghz to 4800+ o/c 3.0ghz, Supreme Commander + C&C3 chugged along with the 4000 as units build up, drop 4800+ in and now they run fine. So again depends on your needs... :)
