I currently have an i3-7100 in my Dell Optiplex and would like to upgrade the CPU as I find its slow with Photoshop.

What could I upgrade this to?. I do not want to replace the mobo

You cannot put a 8400 in the mobo you currently have.
You could maybe put a 7600 in there or a 7700 but we need to know the mobo model no. to check the compatibility list.
Sorry posted before seeing your reply. What other info do you need re the mobo?

This is what ScanmyPC comes back with, Motherboard: Dell Inc. - 08NPPY

So far suggestions for CPU
Not a lot of info on dells site about this board.
I did find this though http://valid.x86.fr/d5c5d3
It shows an i5 7500, so a 7600 would work also.

Do you have the dell service tag no?

Spooky I saw that web page also

The i5-7600 looks a good option. Some suggested an i7-6700 as they are a good CPU and cheaper than the 7th Gen ones

I think your right a i5-7500 (maybe the 7600) looks the most practical choice. My fear with the i7-6700 is the memory comparability

I also think upping the ram from 8 to 16gb will also help

Thanks for your help :)
