I am currently running the following:

i5-4690k
GIGABYTE Z97X-Gaming 5
32gb Ram- CML32GX3M4A1600C10

I've been offered the following:

i7-5820k
Asus X99-a
64gb - CMK32GX4M4A2133C13
____

Would I gain any performance from the additional cores and threads? as I've been noticing quite a lot of stuttering in Apex Legends. I'm also not happy with the performance of Cod Warzone.

I have a Corsair H100i RGB platinum that I will be using.

Just wondering whether it's worth the hassle of setting it all up to see no advantage.

Thoughts please?

How much is it going to cost you?

5820K's and X99 boards still demand a decent price second hand, to the point where you're often spending as much as you would for a brand new Ryzen chip and board.

I would definitely go for it if it's free.

While I don't think your CPU should be struggling with those games, a lot of current games benefit from running on more than 4 cores/threads, which is what your old i5 is limited to. That's only going to get worse going forward with newer titles.

Thanks a lot.
Yeah warzone gets about 80fps however it just doesn't look smooth so it makes me not want to play it. I guess I'll go ahead with it and make the move. Cheers

I got offered a x99 5820k setup before I swapped my whole pc for an and Ryzen setup, but this was going to cost me about £100, I made the mistake of grabbing an r7 2700x for £110 and it all went downhill from there...!

the 5820k is a beast of a cpu, not the king by todays standards, but a nice piece of kit!

Got it all up and running with my gpu and ssds and warzone is finally playable and runs great. Apex legends is very smooth now.

Happy with the transition. I can't imagine how it would run on a top end gaming rig as I'm happy with how it's running on this older hardware. Top stuff.

The 5820k is still a very capable CPU, happy gaming!
