Upgrade ideas

Current system is below....

C2D 6850 @ 3.6
8GB Corsair XMS
Asus P5k premium wifi
2 x WD 1TB HD's
8800GTX
Corsair 650w PSU
Asus Xonar Essence STX
24" TFT

Can you give me an idea of upgrade or new system routes. I am very out of the loop on latest developments but I do like the idea of i7 for a poserful rig that will last a long time as the basisi for all my needs.

Using system for many things and want a bit more snap and ideally a quad core. Can I salvage much or would you just scrap and buy all new?

you have plenty to keep.

a Ati HD5850 and 64gb SSD would be fantastic.

what's the budget.

Made myself laught, meant to say powerful but poserful works as a word I suspect.

Budget is £550 maximum for a CPU, mobo, ram and gfx if possible.

For £550 i think it might be better to go with i5 or AMD3 x4 as a i7 build would really cut the amount you could spend on a GFX.
