Hi all

Was thinking of upgrading my whole system but generally speaking the CPU tech doesn't really seem to have changed much in the last 4 years or so

The gfx cards seemed to have moved on quite a bit, certainly price wise... wow wtf! But what's good currently? AMD or NV? Budget up to max of £400

I'm guessing one of these 2:

Zotac GeForce GTX 980 AMP OC 4096MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card (ZT-90204-10P)

Sapphire Radeon R9 290X Vapor-X OC 8192MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card **OcUK WorldWide Exclusive**

Personally I've always preferred NV but looking at the specs from the outside looks like a no-brainer?

980 is the faster single card, unless going up to 4k resolutions. But to do that you'll need 2 or 3 of each...

If your coning from the 480 in your SIG you'll notice a massive difference.

What resolution are you playing at? And how many monitors.

Really for 1080p/144hz/1440p the GTX 970 is your best bet. Will give you epic performance for less money.

For £260 you'll 'boss' anything below single 4K.

For £400 you could just about get two 290s second hand though (assuming your board supports xfire). That is some epic horsepower for your dime.

Thanks for all the replies...

I just have a single monitor setup, Hanns-g HZ281 1920x1200 and yes still using the 480 in my sig.

Mostly play Diablo3 and Hearthstone so an uber gdx rig isn't required, certainly not interested in SLI or Xfire.

Probably going to get GTA5 when it comes out and maybe play Farcry4. Farcry3 pushed it quite hard but it still managed almost max settings which surprised me at the time.

if your preference is nvidia and you dont want sli then a 980 fits the budget although a 780 ti could save you some money and still give you the performance you need

I recently went from a 480 to a 970 G1..... Like night and day in games like battlefield. Gone from 30fps to 110-130fps tbh the 980 is a bit of a waste on your res with current games. But each to their own.
