Upgrade Info

Hey all

I'm thinking about upgrading my rig and getting back into PC gaming as I miss it!

I'm currently running:

Q6700 Stock
8800 Ultra
4Gb DDR2
900W Coolermaster PSU

My monitor supports up to 1680 * 1050 but would upgrade if I'd see a difference. What would I be looking at to see a noticeable upgrade? Costs, component list would be great

i'd start off with the mimimum upgrade cost of the gelid cooler (£25) for the q6700 and overclock it along with a new gfx card, maybe a 6850/6870 which would end up around £160 ish, see how that goes, no loss cos the cooler and card can be used on the new system.

otherwise a 2500K(£175 ish depending on offers etc) , z68 gigabyte mobo (£100), 4gb memory £30, 6850/6870 card (£130 ish),gelid cooler (£25).

buy a new CPU cooler, overclock the CPU, but a 560ti. will cost you £200 at an absolute maximum

There's no need to go spending money on a new mobo etc.. yet, there's nothing wrong with your CPU and the graphics card will be transferable to any new system when you eventually do a full upgrade anyways.

this is a total bargain and with 2gb of ram is perfect for RAGE, BF3, etc... which are VRAM heavy. it will breach the £200 limit with a CPU cooler though.
