Firstly, hello, new to OcUK and glad to be here :)

So let me get down to it, basically I've had my head buried in the sand for a year or two in the PC Building world. Yes i have built computers for friends but i haven't kept up to date with my CustomPC subscription :P.

Anyway, at the moment i mostly use my Alu MacBook, or PowerMac G4. As for PC Gaming my PC is showing its age. Specs:

Case: Asus Vento 3600 (awww yeh.)
PSU: Hiper 580w
Mobo: Socket 939 Asus A8N SLI-SE
CPU: AMD Athlon X2 2.6Ghz
Memory: 1gb of something awfull like ps2700
HardDrive: 1x250GB IDE with Vista, 1x40GB IDE of XP < (weirdly i mostly use the 40GB)
Graphics: Asus nVidia Geforce 7800GTX (I think cant remember after all was about 3 years ago!)

So anyway, was looking at the Intel Core 2's. With a P45 board (Asus probably, love there boards.) With a good 4GB ram. However, some people have been saying the AMD Phenom is now worth a consideration (Phenom 2 obviously)?

Lets set a budget of around £500, if its something epicly better for not much more thats okay.

Give me a second and I'll spec something. What will it mainly be used for? And do you want a new case?

With the price of these phenom 2 chips they make a lot more sense than an intel in your price range.

This Upgrade is based on an X3 BE and uses your current case and DVD drive:

If you plan on overclocking a cpu cooler like this may be in order (need to check if it fits in your case).

I specced a new PSU because that I hear that Hiper Model is pretty awful.

Nice quad-core CPU and AM3 socket for future-proofing. If you wanted you could change the CPU to the 720, which would allow you to get a HD4890 in.

Don't care much for brand loyalty - at the end of the day they're both multinational corporations who just want your money :p ATI offer better value for money ATM and the drivers are fine.

But i like the second one! Payday here I come... ;)
 
Seems to be working for me (I use chrome and safari). The image hoster is imageshack which is usually fine. You may want to refresh the page.
