Created a similar thread recently although this one is based more on components. I have the itch to upgrade I am a avid gamer and I do plenty of video editting here are my specs and my thoughts so far.

Cooler Master 430 Elite w/ Elite 500w PSU
MSI MSI 870-C45 AMD 770 Chipset (Only supports a single card)
AMD Athlon II X4 Quad Core 640 3.00GHz
Corsair XMS3 4GB RAM (2x2GB)
Radeon Sapphire HD 5830 1GB "Xtreme"
Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 500GB 16MB
+ a secondary HDD 320GB

I can see where an extra set of Corsair RAM would benefit me with rendering and working in Vegas and Adobe After effecs, as well as possibly a CPU cooler and some case fans to maintain some air cooling although for some reason an SSD doesn't jump out at me as a upgrade I want as program load times are not an issue for me what so ever. Peripherals are covered for now. So it would be lovely if someone threw something at me to think about.

Thanks guys!
Max

No dont, that CPU sucks massively, get the 955BE your motherboard will take it.

The "honest" bit was meant to make you wary

I have heard multiple people saying Phenoms are just rebranded Athlons and on OcUK, this costs the same as this. So, is a 955 really that much of an upgrade for him? I notice that the Phenom on Anandtech beats the Athlon at almost everything, are people that talk about the rebranding thing wrong? Surely OcUKs pricing system is also wrong then?

just the low end phenom chips with no L3.

as everyone has said, get the phenom II X4 955 BE.

also, if you sell your current processor you might get enough money for a cracking cooler to go with it.

i'm no expert, but im sure that with the £10 left in the budget, and with the money you could get from selling your current CPU you could happily afford the thermalright silver arrow.

Yeah, or depending how much you get for your current CPU some more RAM maybe?

i suggested the CPU cooler over the ram as it would be more likely to help with gaming, since games hardly ever use more than 4GB of memory anyway. it would help with the video encoding of course

Yeah i know, the only reason i suggested RAM is because he does video editing.
