Upgrade itch - any ideas?

So its been a while since I've had a completye rebuild - coming onto two years although since then I've upgrade by graphics card separately and a few other things.

However I'm now getting a further upgrade itch and thought and see what you guys think I could change.

Current system is a 2500k, MSI P67 GD65 motherboard (bit glitchy see below), AMD 7970, 128gb ssd, Lilian v2000, 6gb memory, qpad 85, chimera 5.1, hazro 27" monitor

Now I don't think the CPU really needs upgrading as it still seems to be able to cut it when clocked to 4.5Ghz and the gfx card is fine although i've always been tempted to try crossfire at some point but I think I'll wait for a new game to come out to make the most of it as I'll need a new PSU to go along with it.

My current thought is a motherboard as following from some bios issues I've found the board it a bit glitchy and takes a while to boot into windows (once in windows loads the start up quickly - thanks SSD) but the actual initial load up seems to take forever.

The motherboards I've looked at are the Asus Sabertooth or I've seen a few people rave about the MSI Mpower Z77.

Anyone got any particular views on either of those boards or anything which might cause problems with my 2500k cpu.

Also can anyone recommend a larger SSD drive as the 128gb starts to get full with BF3 installed and a few other games.

Thanks

Well how can I say no following that reasoned and well communicated view. ;)

Very tempted for mobo. Can sell current board and further reduces costs.

Moved from the Msi to the Asus Z77 Saber.

I find the Asus much easier to work with , it comes with Pcie 3 & it will run Ivy , should you decide to go there.

Overall I would class the move as more of a sideways step ; with a little upgrade.:D

Sons computer now runs the Msi with a cheap dual core - runs well :)

Ah decisions.

Will have a look at a few more reviews but looks like a new mobo might be the job.

Another SSD may not benefit you depending on which you already own, but the new Samsung have great read & write speeds, you may see an improvement if you are looking to upgrade.

Have you attempted a BIOS update on your mobo yet?

With Haswell so close to launch, I think your money would be better spent waiting for the 4th Gen and upgrade then. Looking at your spec, you'll only be replacing CPU & Mobo at the cost of £300....a rough guess, not sure on Haswell's pricing yet! You've still got a solid rig there.

Erm actually might be 8gig. Was going from 2 year old memory when I said my original spec.

Might try another bios update but original issue started when I updated the bios but Geniuses MSI had the bios set so that it would work with the new CPUs but in doing so it messed up anyone using a 2500k. Managed to force it back to an older bios but since then its been buggy as hell.
