Hey all,

Last month or so been having a bit of an upgrade itch and having taking a small peek in the VEGA thread it seem like AMD not going to come out with anything spectacular in the near future so thought I ask to make sure if that's the case ??

Reason I am asking I been thinking getting a GTX 1080 although not to sure how much of an upgrade it really would be compared to the R9 Fury X I have presently ??

If of importance I am using a superwide 34'' 3440 x 1440 resolution monitor and and additional 2 side monitors 24'' 1920 x 1200.

Thank you for any and all information you can provide me with. :)

A GTX 1080 would be very good for 3440x1440

The only reason you wouldn't get one is if you want to attempt to get decent value for money.

If you want to try getting better value for money, I'd get a GTX 1070 now and then plan to sell it when big Vega and the GTX 1080 Ti come out in ~4-6 months. And buy whichever turns out better.

In theory you'd end up paying as much as a 1080 is now, but end up with something better. And a 1070 will be still pretty great for 3440x1440 since it's mildly faster than a 980 Ti or Titan X Maxwell.

Incidentally this is what I have done myself. Though I'm only on two 1920x1080 monitors, so a 1070 is not holding me back in the slightest.

EDIT: Oh I missed the part where you had a Fury X already. In which case my advice stands, but don't bother with a 1070 for now, just wait and sell the Fury X

The 1080 is undoubtedly a better card, but i wouldn't think it's a a big enough performance increase to make the swap. It's an upgrade yes, but a big upgrade? Not one I think is worth while

Ok, so AMD has something (probably) that be coming out relatively soon then, that's good to know. If they being launched around the same time I'll see what others say about the cards and pick one then.

Yeah, I thought that might be the case although I am totally n00b when it comes to the technically side of the cards and how they working, thank you.

Thank you both of you, I try and keep my upgrade itch under control and hope the new GPU's wont take to long before they hit the shelfs. :o
