So I have the upgrade itch to buy a new rig.. I sit here and my brain tells me that my current rig can play every game I have at the moment at max settings with no problem at all.. Then my geeky side tells me that you haven't spoilt yourself on a new rig in 3+ odd years and it wants a new'un! :D

My current rig is the below:

CPU - Intel Core i5 750 (1st Gen)
Cooling - Corsair Hydro H50-1 Liquid
Mobo - Asus P7P55D-E Intel P55 (Socket 1156)
RAM - G.Skill Ripjaw 8GB (4x2GB) DDR3 1600MHz
GPU - Asus ATI Radeon HD 6950 OC 2GB GDDR5
Sound - Asus Xonar DX 7.1
SSD - 60GB OCZ Vertex 2E (1st Gen)
HDD - 1TB - Western Digital Caviar Black (2x500GB)
Monitor - Dual 24" Monitors - BenQ G2420HDBL (LED)
PSU - OCZ ModXStream Pro 600w Silent Modular
Case - Coolermaster CM-690 Pure Black Dominator

Now I am contemplating getting something like the below, but then I think well what improvement is it going to give me and is there anything new coming out this year I should wait for? I'm obviously not really desperate, just being a geek and want a new rig! :D

So I guess my question(s) are really...

1.) Is it worth it? Should I wait for the next new gen of tech whenever it is due Easter 2013 or something?
2.) Am I going to notice the difference? I say not, maybe a little but nothing impressive..
3.) Could I maybe upgrade my current rig? I'd rather not to be honest and feel it would be pointless but eh..

The rig is going to be used for gaming, bit of MS Office work and web browsing, emails, etc. I currently play Battlefield 3, Guild Wars 2, League of Legends, Team Fortress 2 and plan to play Borderlands 2, new CoD, Crysis 3 etc all upon release as well..

Cheers. ;)

Not worth the money, you won't see that much improvement over your current spec. If you insist on upgrading there's no need for an 850W PSU unless you're wanting to run three of those GTX670s.

Yeah I wouldn't bother, the only thing you're likely to notice any significant difference with upgrading is going to be the graphics card... and if you can already play all your games on max you're not even going to benefit much there.

Just hold off for a while. It's not worth it. However as suggested above, a new faster, larger SSD would be a great addition and something you can port over to a new build next year or so.

so where's the problem? lol

There isn't one which is half of my point! :p I don't need a new rig, I just want one.. But my financial/sane side of me says there is no point!

I think I will try stay put until Easter or whenever the new gen tech comes out.. I may get a new SSD at some point or try hold it until the full thing..

Hi, you have not mentioned if you have overclocked the CPU and GPU if not do it, a free performance boost and save money.

I have the itch all the time, with far worse specs than that :D Holding out til haswell though as i am hoping the other stuff will be down in price come easter as well.

If you can afford it go for it mate, I have had the same itch for over a year, I kept listening to the more sensible people on here, but I gave in and decided to go for a custom build from ocuk.

I have an i5 760 rig which I bought before I'd heard about sandy bridge, It's very tempting to upgrade to 1155 but my rig is fast enough and plays all my games faultlessly. If you only "want" a new system then it's up to you whether it's worthwhile. Sounds like it would be slightly wasteful if I'm honest though buddy!
Either way, enjoy!

Yeah I am going to resist temptation and stick with my sane side and say to wait for Intel's Haswell and the next gen of ATI/NVIDIA GPUs..

It is true as 3 of my friends have rigs on Sandybridge and Ivybridge and I can't even see the difference when using them for gaming/browsing etc so it probably would be a waste of money..

I'll wait!! Huff.. :(
