Hi people, i have recently have had the upgrade itch but i cant find any sensible reasons to do so, so basically looking for either a plain and simple "yes upgrade because of ........"

or

"leave it as it is because......"

current specs are:

maximus v forumla
i7 3770k @ 4.3ghz
8gb team group 2133mhs ram
sandisk ultra ssd 120gb
1tb seagate hdd
gtx 670 x 2 (sli)
ocz 850w 80+gold psu

i mainly use the rig for gaming and at present it runs everything i can throw at it at ultra settings, bf4 gives me over 100fps average, metro close to 60 etc.

my main reason for upgrading was i like the look and thought of having a 780ti but i understand that my sli setup comes very close to this. having a sli 780ti is out of question from a money perspective.

so my main question is, will me rig serve me well for some time yet, or will i see some real benefits from upgrading either the entire system or parts of it anyway

thanks for the advice

I'm in the same boat, i7 with SLI 680's. I have the same itch!

Are your 670's 2gb versions? Are you set on nvidia or would you switch to amd?

I'd say you wouldn't be able to improve gaming performance very much with that PC, if you need to upgrade though (and I get that feeling :D) get a bigger SSD maybe? It's a great PC as is though.

Yea they are. I game at only 1080p and yet haven't come across anything that has limited vram. Maybe skyrim now and again but I have like over a 100mods.

I am set on nvidia. Not a fanboy but had trouble with amd in the past and it only takes the one time to put you off completly.

Jac3 thanks for that. All I needed to hear. It's something that I will pay stupid money on for now reason but just needed to satisfy myself.

I may splash on the nzxt h440 when it comes out. I do like the clean look of it and love the fact you can't see the psu in the side panel.

Maybe a new slightly bigger case, try theme your machine a little, add a few fans, braided cables, some leds lol. Hardware wise your pretty set, nothing is going to be worth the price as the difference is minimal, I would wait a few more generations, or until games start to drop below 60fps.

Having gone all the way from 2600k to 2700k to my current setup(in my sig), I can confirm that your system is more than capable and an upgrade won't yield much benefit especially if you are a gamer... If I were you, I will hold tight as Z97, X99 and GTX 800 series are on their way...;)
I also have a work machine with 3750k on ASUS P8Z77 I DELUXE and to be honest with you I am yet to see a real life difference in terms of performance with my Haswell primary rig at home... So here you go... I don't know how bad is your upgraditis because the above might not be what you actually want to hear:D I get it frequently and when it's very bad, I go and buy some cheap peripherals to take my mind of it;)...

Thanks all. That has satisfied my itch.

I think at present my money is better spent on making the rig look good. The cm 690ii nvidia edition does nothing to make it look good. Like said. I think I'm going to get the h440 and go with a red and black theme in keeping with the rog theme. So just need to get the case and some pre braided atx and PCI-e cables.

Next stop DDR4, Devils Canyon, please mind the gap

This.

I have the upgrade itch too but as I don't really stress my PC much at the moment I'm sticking with my Q6600(!). If there's no tangible benefit to be had by upgrading then don't. If you want something PC related then custom water cooling would be my suggestion as you can carry that over when you upgrade to Skylake.

What monitor do you have amigo? If 24" then you could go with a 27" ;)

I'm using 40inch samsung led tv. I know I know. When I built the rig I temporarily connected it to that to get it going. I primarily use the computer for watching movies and playing games and when I play games it's from around 8 feet away on my comfy chesterfield.

As I'm never sitting up close I couldn't justify spending on a monitor. I havnt noticed any input lag or any pixelated issues.
