So I'm feeling that need again as I'm sure you can all sympathize with! But not entirely sure what to do. My spec is below:

I5 3570k @ 3.4 (stock) with one of those processor only water coolers
8gb ddr3
60gb OS / progs SSD
250gb Games SSD
9tb sundry storage
GTX660 gfx card

27" 1920x1080 120hz main monitor
27" 1920x1080 secondary monitor

Now the main problem I think I have is the internet! I am sharing with my fiance at a tiny flat with abysmal internet speeds (3mbit) and on wifi which keeps cutting me off.
We cant upgrade and the live in landlord refuses to, I cant go powerline as he refuses to fit it (its in his room, I've fitted it in seconds before and got shouted at for it).
So because of this I havent been playing any online games, like bf4 and mmos and such like I used to. So currently the most demanding game I play is minecraft!
But even without that, most of the games I play dont struggle on graphics, the processor doesnt hold it back. I have no real issues.
For once I dont think I need to upgrade and havent for many months, but I have the hardware itch!
Help me someone lol.

You could overclock your cpu to give a performance boost.

What computer case are you using? possible contender for a upgrade.

Hehe we are renting cheep atm. A tiny shared room in a flat with three others. But it's only 410 all bills included. That's 205 each so we are staying here cheep until we can buy our own place! No point moving to a decent flat if we can't afford to save while there!
But yeah the guy card may be the main bottleneck...

Might be an off-the-wall suggestion but have you thought about going 4G for your broadband internet? Obviously depends where you live as to coverage but it wouldn't require anything installed or in your landlord's room. If you're in London, there's an ISP that have set up for 4G use with only a 1 month contract. Not sure if I can mention names but just search for London 4G broadband. Might not be ideal for FPS type games due to increased latency but on a 3G HSPA+ connection I'm getting 50-70ms pings on a quick test. I'd quote 4G latency for you but just because I want to use it for a once, it's decided not to get a signal.
I tend to turn off my 4G because it does cause audio interference on my quite aging speakers where 3G doesn't. Distance fixes it and I'm sure newer speakers would be suitably filtered/insulated.

I would love that tbh. I recently upgraded my phone and got Vodafone which have three months of free data and I can get 4g if I stick my phone on the windowsill and connect to that via the WiFi but I am not aware of any it's that do that in my area yet. I am in Bournemouth and we are just out of reach of Virgin media which is a pain and we are miles from the exchange so we are getting 3mbit on an up to 14 contract. It sucks. I would love a 4g isp!

Worth a try with your phone then. I had to do a mass-download of Windows Updates at a customer's recently and a fairly weak Vodafone 4G signal managed to pull about 5GB of data in at up to 13Mbps...which was faster than the customer's 10Mbps leased line. :)

Indeed! I can at best top 29mbit on the windowsill with a bar of 4g so I know its joy lol. But the phone contract is very e pensive. Like 59 quid for 40gb limit

You're not going to get cheap unlimited tariffs but you can certainly get 8GB/month for £26 on a one month contract. As an existing customer it's probably worth ringing them and telling them what the problem is. You might be able to share an additional data plan between phone and dongle/mifi and you might be able to twist their arm into lowering the price. The key thing is you don't have to have a phone line installed and you don't have to be tied into a 12 month contract if you don't want to - or if you do, you can just move the device to your new home without getting stung.

Thats not too bad, but 8gb I would burn through easily if I took up online gaming again I reckon :/
Maybe I will just double my RAM, minecraft has been sluggish lately :p

Worth trying a session while you have unlimited data plan. Some things use a lot less data than you'd expect...and others (like lending your wife your data) burn a gig and a half in less sleep the an hour *sigh*
