upgrade itch :(

as most of the people here will understand i have the itch to buy some shiny new hardware but don't know what


current spec

2600k @4.8ghz
8gig ram
240gig 840 ssd
120gig 840 ssd

2x2tb mechanicals for bulk storage
xfi fatility sound card

and

2x280x gpu running mild overclocks all on a 850w corsair pus


currently game at 1080p which the above handles more than adequately.

i did consider a couple of new GPUS and 4k monitors but upon reflection i think i'll wait and see what the 390x brings before making any moves.

now that leaves me in a quandary i want to upgrade something but i honestly can't see where to spend money on the above apart from the GPUS which are on hold for now.

suggestions welcome for a noticeable improvement to the above?

I see you have a nice sound card so do you have good speakers?

Is your machine struggling with basic stuff ?

Do you game a lot on high ?

I had this same itch a while ago,sat myself down and realized it does more than i want it to do and my spec is not as good as yours.

My spec....
I7 920 (stock with speed step on)
32gb ram (it was cheap at the time)
windforce 670 (stock)
120gb ssd for windows (nothing fancy)
2tb storage
750gb steam
850 corsair psu
28" dell monitor on 2560x1440

My machine does what i want,plays game ect.

Do you really need to upgrade ?

not a fan of fancy peripherals, i've got a well used intellimouse that i love and a decent gigabyte keyboard so covered that way :) oh and a set of r1600Ts and a decent headset which covers everything there.



it does everything i want it to in fairness at a solid 60fps. i just want something shiny and new ;) seriously contemplated picking up a new cpu and mobo and 16gb of ram but i know deep down i wouldn't see any noticeable gains over my trusty 2600k, and i still have a bit more left in that if need be as it will pull a 24/7 5ghz under my AIO bleeding intel making fantastic cpus that don't need replaced

tempted to pick up another 840 and raid them :)
 
You could buy a Freesync monitor now, but your cards dont support Freesync.

Thats if you do game which with CF 280X's I guess is a yes.

P.S you say you game yet dont have a nice new mouse or I bet even a nice mouse mat?

i have the most premier of mouse mats i'll have you know,


the OCUK XXL mat of manliness. and nowt wrong with an intellimouse its the business.

case wise its a phantom enthusiast not athestically pleasing but perfect in most other ways

You do not even really need a new case either.

i do indeed. Gibbo says it adds an extra 5fps to my gaming at 1080p


told you its the age old upgrade itch perfectly good pc but want something new to play with. either that or i fancy Douglas my DPD driver
