Hi,

Finally looking to upgrade my P4 and want something that will last me a good few years.

Intel i5 750
Gigabyte GA-P55-UD5
4GB Corsair XMS3 DDR3, PC3-12800 (1600)
Corsair H50-1 cooler

with a view to overlcocking.

I've never built a PC before (changed cards/RAM/PSU & fiddled in BIOS etc) so can't decide whether to go for a bundle or do it myself.
Really fancy giving it a go but not keen on trashing £400 worth of kit or having to call someone out when it doesn't boot!

Any comments on the above spec or advice on building greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the forums

The basic spec looks ok and indeed the core components are the same as used in the OcUK bundle :)

The peeps here will help you out at all stages and threads cover most of what you need to know. If your unsure ... just post the question and you'll get some help. Some peeps have actually done "live" builds and received help as they've gone along!!

Ahem...that's no coincidence!! ;)
I decided on the cpu 1st then googled a few oveclocking setups before plumping on the above.

Nice to know and thanks for replying.

AS Essexraptor said, you could buy the bundle and all you would have to do then is install the h50 but it doesn't take much getting used to, building it yourself that is and if needed help can always be found on here :)

Personally, i would say buy the bundle if your not confident in overclocking yourself.

I'd go for building yourself, its nice to learn and really quite easy tbh! Plus theres plenty of help at hand on these forums if you need it :)

Cheers guys, think I'll try it myself then.

Doing bit more research on here seems that push/pull fans are a good idea for the H50 so I'll add them in but 1 thing I hadn't considered is the case.

Not sure my old one is suitable as it's quite small and certainly doesn't have fans.

Are fans essential for the above spec?!
Any reasonably priced recommendations as I can't quite believe how many there are?!
