Hi Guys

It's been a long while since I upgraded my pc, but I've finally managed to bag a FE 3080ti so was holding off until I got a new gfx card.

I'm looking to upgrade my base pc as I'm running a i5 6600k, 16 gig of ram and a gtx 980 ti.

I've got all the bits I need mouse keyboard monitor etc just need the base unit.

Any help would be great, I'm so out of touch with hardware now that I really have no idea, not against going for a prebuilt to just slot in my 3080ti when it arrives instead of building it myself.

Thanks in advance

Hi

Intel Alderlake dominates 12600k is best bang for buck in the line up followed by the 12700k and top of the tree 12900k. Memory can be ddr4 and ddr5 but the latter being hard to get and not a significant boosts in gaming.

Rgb , Wi-Fi preferred ?

Hey micky

Wifi on mobo if possible just for future but not essential 12600k is probably the one I will go for and pair it with ddr4. I know I probably need a 850w psu something like the corsair 850x. Looking for a minimal case not fussed about rgb just maybe a slick looking case thats not too big.

Your 3080ti is 285mm so you want a bit of room if you add watercooling yo the front so case may be slightly larger. Added a 1 tb pcie4 m2 but vould drop yo a pcie3 drive to save money, check mother board suits your needs as there are so many .

@Craig_d1 @Joxeon any help on cooling not sure what's lga 1700 compatable straight out the box.Tx

the only aio's that come with 1700 fittings in the box that OCUK sell are the Corsair Hydro series elite LCD ones(sent email to OCUK asking about it)...did have that link in another post..such as Artic, if you ring will send you conversion fittings for free etc...been trying to find it.
All z690 asus boards though come predrilled so can fit socket 1200 fittings too
Remember with the Prime board you get a £45 rebate from asus if you buy with the 12600k...promotion ends 19th

The prime boards are their budget boards, and seeing as you have a 3080ti, which is hardly budget, I'd prob go up a notch to the ASus tuf gaming wifi @£280...you get a £60 rebate with that one...or MSI Z690 Tomahawk...basically solid mid range boards ...the tuf can take 4 nvme gen4 though, tomahawk 3xgen4, 1xgen3

AS bit subjective though. @Oggy do you want a white case/black... you said not too big? 3080ti must pump out a fair amount of heat...4000D airflow is stylish also...seen white one for £62 on offer, OCuk had black one for £89..or 011d mini air

@Craig_d1 Tx great advice.

Didn't go 4000d due to the op wanting a smallish case there is a white version of the 275r case also..

Not a lot in it..4000D top, 275R below...saying that 5000 series case 520 x 245 x 520 so really wont make a lot of difference..7cm taller, but deeper so plenty of space to fit any length gpu for future upgrade...and extra depth you have the side shroud, which you can remove and put another row of fans in(little biases as it's what I've done:cry:)...with Z690 board having pciegen5 gpu slot, a few years down the line that'll be a possiblity and who knows the size of the cards then..

....011d mini airflow at bottom..prob my fav at mo for smaller build..even though smaller can still fit a 3090 in there so no worrying about gpu length. looks smart as well though preorder
  • Dimensions (L x W x H) - 453mm x 230mm x 466mm
  • Dimensions (L x W x H): 457mm x 216mm x 455mm
  • 288mm x 384mm x 400mm(W x H x D)

True.

There is a distinct lack of z690 MATX DDR4 motherboards  .

Sounds good re the motherboard I usually keep my builds for a long time so don't mind spending the extra for it to be worth it. Not sure if I'm going to be able to buy it before 19th as I need to spec it all up plus I would like overclockers to build it before they send it just so I can pop the gfx card in and install windows.

Not fussed on colour to be honest I guess black is better as I've got the FE version so for it to all match as such, this does look sexy tho https://www.overclockers.co.uk/lian...idi-tower-tempered-glass-white-ca-78z-ll.html I'm not short of space just don't want a monster as it's in the living room.

Budget I don't really want to go over 1k for the rest as I have sunk a lot into the ti, would have got a 3080 if possible but I'll be honest I just took what dropped on that day. Not going to complain 1k for a 3080ti these days is considered cheap (crazy)

It's going yto cost about 1k min for parts then Build costs as you can see with my build.

The snow mini case only takes a sfx psu though, and the 3080ti is a power hog. I would want a 850w min psu. New version(mesh takes a standard psu). If you like that look you may just want to go for the standard 011d..white case, white fans and aio, tomahawk board and gpu, get some white power cables and have a black and white theme going

Shame the place you got the FE card has the z63 on offer at £149 but it's only in black..then you get the nice lcd display on the cpu..think the 2 fans that come with the case are black fans for some reason...the psu is the old rm850x so you are aware...the 2021- version is below..you can tell diff by the triangle mesh design for fan...it uses magnetic levitation fan as well as some upgraded components compared to the older version (2018-2020). Fan can get slightly louder under load but is far more durable...I have the RM1000x version and have yet to hear the fan. Only thing I here is slight hum from the aio pump when close to it or the 3080 fan when gpu under load( when testing it)..below 450w i think the fan doesn't even spool up. PSU colour wont matter much as you wont see it in the case..or can't see it in my 5000X anyway

I would take the Lian-Li Galahad 240mm for £50 less. They can sort the bracket out if they are building it for you.

The White RMx does come with White braided cables though, so even though the unit is hidden you get the nicer looking cables.
