Upgrade me £300 -400 max

Hi guys ok at present still running whats in my sig

now case is very good i have li lan and psu is 3 years old (is it powerfull enough ) for intel route
and my gfx are so so
so what would you change fancy the intel way but if my buget isnt good enough then amd route again

so i have £300 -400 max to spend without delivery or operating system using linux

so can you help a oldie like me get into the new stuff :)

what res will you be running?

what programs will you be running other than games?

And on a a side note you would be able to get at least £200 s939 stuff sells very well second hand saw your exact cpu go for £90 last week :P

Because your budget is flexable & you havent stated a usage Ive made up a few builds:











The frist spec is all about bang for buck it will play 99% of games at max settings on a 19/22 inch fine once clocked up to 3ghz its a well balanced build.

The second spec is a pure gaming machine.

The PII & Q9550 are pretty similar performance wise so its personal choice the AMD is £30 cheaper though :P

& then ive added in an i7 for lols

If you do any sort of editing or encoding get a quad core.
If you just play games go for duel.
 
always over clock my systems to the max
monitor are del 24 " monitors - Resolution: 1920x1200
looking at the gaming rig not bad spec at all

would keep the 2nd hand stuff upgrade the wife just buy her a 9500 gfx cards lol

yes gaming rig spec that was suggested is good, although I would get
- e8400 (same chip as e8500, just different multiplier 9 vs 9.5)
- ram is good (i have it), but would recommend you find the same set without the dominator fan, i have removed the fan, it is fairly useless and just blocks airflow to cpu
