Hi Guys, Just need your excellent advice on what upgrade I should do next on my PC.

Specs So Far.

Motherboard|ASUS Crosshair IV Formula

Processor|AMD Phenom II X6 1090T Processor

Memory|4 GB Dominator DDR3 [2x2GB]

Video|ASUS AMD Radeon HD 6970 Series 2GB

Disk|WDC GREEN 2TB

Cooler: Stock Cooler

CASE: Antec Three Hundred

PSU: Antec True Power 650 WATT

OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit

What are the most needed upgrade for my build? I mainly use my computer for gaming and video (watching and encoding my dvd/blu ray collection]

Thanks

upgrade the cooler, no question about it. the standard AMD one is noisy as hell, and about as efficient at cooling stuff as an asthmatic blowing through a straw.

give me a minute and i'll see what will fit in your case

*edit*
also, is there some way of changing your OS to the 64 bit without spending any money. it would mean you could use all of your RAM (32 bit windows has a 4GB limit on RAM, and you have 6GB (4GB system RAM, 2GB graphics RAM).

not really worth it if you have to pay, but if you can do it free then go for it

Firstly upgrade to 64 bit windows, 32 bit is holding you back massively
Secondly a SSD (to put windows and main apps/games on) would be hugely beneficial as the HDD you have there is purely meant as a storage drive not a boot drive, those 2 should about do it

wow, my cooler hunt is being successful. there is no info from antec about the maximum cooler height available for your case. also, your ram has quite tall heatsinks so it may interfere with the cooler.

i'd play it safe and get an all in one watercooler like the antec 620, then get a big overclock on the rig

Okay so it seems changing the OS to 64bit is a must. As for cooling, what do you guys recommend as a good CPU cooler want something quite quiet but also very good at cooling.

Case: I do have Fractal Define XL available ( started building a server build recently for a WHS 2011 Server)

if it would fit i would recommend a thermalright silver arrow, but im really not sure if it will fit in either case as almost no case manufacturer advertises what the maximum height of CPU cooler their case will support. (coolermaster is always very good with putting that info up somewhere, but thats about it)

they might be able to tell you if you asked their customer service, but i certainly cant find any info floating around the interweb

Thanks for looking Reaper, I shall have a look around at different fans and do some sizes on both cases. Adding another 4GB to my memory wont be to bad and a SSD upgrade as well.

How does my setup fair in overclocking?
