I built this PC about 18 months ago, it's still up to everything I ask of it but I just fancy updating it a bit lol.

It's used for gaming, mostly FPS and web browsing.

So current spec is:

Asus P8P67 (B3)
I5 2500K (OC'd to 3.70Ghz ish)
BE QUIET Dark Rock PRO CPU Cooler
MSI GTX560Ti 1024MB Twin FrozR II
8GB Corsair XMS3 1600Mhz
2x Crucial M4 64GB SSD's in RAID 0
1 TB Samsung Spinpoint F3
Corsair HX850W PSU

Case is an Antec 900, first gen I believe.

I was planning on spending between £150-£200 plus roughly whatever the bits getting replaced would ebay for!

So what would you replace and for what reason?

Also thinking of a mechanical keyboard but not included in the price above, any recommendations in the £50-£100 range?

i really do not see any point in upgrading that system, surly it would be better to put the cash away and build a new computer in 2 years ?

The only thing i could suggest is getting SLI

Oh ok

I've just never been overly happy with the P67, not sure why tbh just a feeling lmao, also I was thinking the GFX was getting on a bit.

I usually sell bits before they're so old that nobody wants them!

I know what you mean, I could buy a new mobo and the next gen CPU's won't fit it and I'll have to buy another one if I want a new processor in years time....

Decisions decisions........

I just bought a z77 board to replace my p67 dinosaur, so I'll let you know if it was worth it if you can wait that long (stupid question :p ). Although my board is away in the Netherlands and will be making up a build for my missus so it was a convenient time for me.

The best bang for buck would be to flog your 560 and go for a 670/680 or 7950/7970, but it wouldn't be a huge upgrade. Alternatively, replace your raid SSDs with a nice 256gb SSD.

What's your monitor like? A good monitor is a great upgrade.

As for peripherals, you could get a qpad mk85 for that money. I have the mk50 and am very happy with it (I do sometimes wish I had brown switches for when I'm typing though).

Upgrading your 560 will be a large upgrade. The 560 isnt much better than 460 and the 1GB VRAM is limiting. Look for a 7950 for £220.

Bumping this back up for some current advice, the spec is still as it was in the first post, I've not used the PC much over the past year but I've just started gaming a bit again and it's showing it's age.

Running COD ghosts at 1440x900 on my 19" monitor is a bit of a struggle and I'd like to get a bigger monitor so I think a new graphics card is required!

Looking to spend around £250-300 on the card upgrade after Xmas, and want to stay with nvidia.

What cards should I be looking at? Is it worth trying to get a 3 or 4gb version or will 2gb be adequate?

Cheers :)

If it was me I'd look at getting another 560ti, youll be able to find a used one easily under budget and it would give better performance than a GTX680/7970 in most situations. Your PSU could easily cope with a second card too.

Make sure you get the right verison of 560ti though as a 384 core card wont SLI with a 448 core card.

Cheers guys, I'm not interested in going for a dual card setup, I don't like the clutter of extra cards and wires and don't really want the extra noise of a second card.

My reasoning for sticking with nvidia was that I've had mates before that have used AMD and they always seem to have issues with drivers and games not working properly etc, are the AMD drivers better these days?

I've been looking at 770's is it worth getting a 4gb one or will the 2gb be fine for the next year or two?

Hi ,

Personally if the prices between the 2 & 4GB versions was closer then go with the larger amount , but its quite a bit more it seems , so 2GB should do the job perfectly.

If it was me, your cpu cooler will handle an OC on that i5 no probs, i have the same chip currently at 4.4ghz.

I would buy another mobo if your not happy with that one, z77 would suffice, you can opt for one of the cheaper Gigabyte ones as you dont want SLI or Xfire etc.

Push your CPU up to 4.2 - 4.6, whichever it feels comfortable at. That CPU cooler will handle it no probs.

I would look at a 280, bit outta your budget i think tho, as i just seen the budget, maybe save up some cash and go for a 280 but i would definitely replace the mobo if your not happy and push the CPU up

This. A good z77 mobo can be had for under £100 and you should easily get 4.6ghz+ out of your cpu with it being sandybridge. A 280x is a good choice of gpu, but they are quite expensive due to a mining boom so i would wait a month or so till everyone gets bored of it and there is a flood of cheap ex mining cards. You could also go with a 270x or 770, as it will still be a good improvement from a 560ti
