hi all is it worth upgrading my motherboard to the z97 chipset if so what one to go for

my current system is
i7 4770k
asus z87 pro
gigabyte 980ti
24gb corsair dominator platinium
h100i

I wouldn't have thought so.. I think the main difference is you can take newer CPUs, M.2 SSD if the board has slot and SATA Express..

Not worth it IMO, I think your current system is more than fine..

Why are you looking at doing this? Z87 will take all 1150 cpu's with a bios flash. The only thing you will gain is a m2 socket. You won't get any extra performance.

First post - hello!

I did recently upgrade a z87 to a z97. Only motherboard that I could fin that would give a decent upgrade was the asus Impact vii.

Anyway I gained:

M.2 slot
Better sound as it has a discrete daughter board sound card
Loads of fan headers, a weakness on my previous board.
Best of all its far more stable with my overclock and allows a lower voltage and hence less temps than my last mobo.
Ability to take 5th gen CPUs.
A whole loads of other geeky crap I'll never use!
