Upgrade my 2500k to i7 7700k ? To match my MSI 1080 TI ?

Am I going to see much of an improvement by doing this ? I game at 2.5k 1440p Ultra settings no problems at the moment on all games.

You will see a considerable improvement when coupled with a 1080ti as your 2500K will be limiting the cards potential (GTX 1070 would have been a more even pairing). Your gaming experience should be considerably smoother with a 'much' faster CPU combined with the 1080ti.

But would advise you to consider Ryzen - more core/threads and longevity as more games/apps will be utilising them in the future.

Additional: Is our 2500K clocked - and are you experiencing any stuttering?

As you can see the 2500K at 4.5GHZ they have is still doing ok, but they are testing at 1080P rather than a higher resolution where a GFX card matters more than the CPU does.
True - stulid's gives a good example - and the 'no problem's' comment, is a valid point.

I should have added that i have a similar setup to yourself - but with a GTX 1070 but at 1440p and i've still resisted the urge to upgrade.

Which is why i ask about possible stuttering? As i'm experiencing some in a few games - but this is easily remedied with a few tweaks to settings.

With the few recent Ryzen builds i've 'briefly' tested - the real difference is the steady FPS (more than the increase in FPS itself) and the smoothness of game play (but only in some games where the CPU may bottleneck). What i've noticed is that it isn't necessarily displayed on screen why the the game is smoother - i.e. the FPS difference. What i mean is that the FPS drops may not be that dramatic, or may even be similar, but the overall gaming experience is a smoother. I'm presuming this is where the 2500K, even at 4.5GHz is maxing out at similar FPS but the higher specced CPU is breezing through making for a smoother experience.

It's the one very noticeable difference which is making me want to upgrade everytime i do a build for someone :/

But, if your system is experiencing no problems i would hold off and upgrade when the new generation of boards have come out or the BIOS updates have been refined even more (although i'm talking about Ryzen again).
