Hey Guys, with Battlefield 3 incoming i'm considering upgrading my 4870 1GB.

Don't have a huge budget of around £150, is it worth it? and what would you recommend?

Thanks

if you can stretch to 165-170 you can pick upa 560ti, really solid card should be ok to make bf3 look good. Bear in mind with bf3 the trailers you are seeing i imagine are only possible with really beefy hardware.
Also we dont know whether it wil run better on ati or nvidia cards.
if you playing at 1920 + resolution you might want to consider

as the extra ram should help performance

Now that BF3 Beta is out, I can see my 4870 is struggling.

What cards would be recommended to upgrade to of around £150. I don't mind going second hand if need be.

Or should I wait for the 7xxx series?

I would wait until the game is out and then make a decision mate, your hd4870 might not cut it, but if you wait, You will be better placed to make that judgement call. Would hate for you to buy a 560ti now and then later realise you should have got a better card.

For what it is worth, I am gonna stick with what I have in my sig for the game, If I cant run at 1080p then I will just turn some settings down.

If you can up your budget to £200 you can get a 2gb 6950 and they run bf easily on high, and probably on ultra with aa toned down once the full game is released.

Will his processor not hold him back a bit ?

is my AMD phenom 2 X4 965 3.40 GHz CPU better than his ? i dont know tech stuff

Wait until it's out if you can, then hopefully you will have a little more to add to your budget. Myself, I'd be looking at something like a 560ti / 6950 or above.

Wait till the actual release of the BF3 before deciding. The current performance in BF3 beta is just what it is- a beta, which is still undering going tweaking and is not a finished product.

But definitely getting at least a GTX560Ti 2GB or 6950 2GB is the way to go...BUT if you really can't stretch the budget, then you should probably look at cards like 6870 1GB. The chance are you will have to run BF3 with no more than 2xAA...or even 0xAA.

Thanks for all your replies.

I'll wait for the release of BF3 then before making a decision. I could probably stretch to the 6950 and will consider this.

Thanks again
