well i have a 980. I have a little upgrade itch and a bonus to spend ;)

so i am kinda thinking of selling my 980 whilst its still fetching half decent cash and buying a 980ti. Or do i just wait for the next series to come out ? i game at 1080p but have 3 monitors and in a couple of games use 2 or 3 monitors. I get good frames as it is now and can play pretty much everything maxed out but you know what its like when u have that itch. Skylake is doing nothing for me either. maybe i should upgrade to a 1440 monitor but then i guess the 980 wont be beefy enough to max everything out lol.

So stick with the 980 or upgrade whilst i can effectively sell the 980 to fund half of the upgrade ?

not really there is quite a jump in performance between the two, but not so much that if your already playing things how you want you really might not notice. but it scratches that itch lol

I went from a 980 to a 980Ti and the performance jump really didn't matter playing @ 2560x1080. Everything ran at 60 FPS so it was fine, but when I moved up to 3840x2160 the 980Ti really did shine.

A 980 should perform pretty well at 1440p - http://www.anandtech.com/show/8526/nvidia-geforce-gtx-980-review - Mine coped (yes, coped...) at 2160p, so I can't imagine it struggling that much at 1440p, if at all.

hmmmm its the 6gb Vram thats taking me in lol. I just feel that later the TI will sli so much better than a 980 due to the extra vram. I just wish intel (or amd for that matter) done something a little more interesting with CPU's so i could upgrade that. The other option of course is another 980 but i keep sli up my sleeve for later on. maybe i should treat myself to a 1440 monitor. 4k really doe not interest me for some reason. the extra horsepower to drive it for the little gain (in my eyes) does not seem worth it. Maybe i need to try it i guess. but on a <30 inch monitor does 4k really give that much

The 6gb VRAM is definitely a plus, especially for SLI if that's how you're going to go about it in the future.

I'd advise the monitor first, mainly because outside of games you'd still be using the monitor, but not the GPU, if you get what I mean? And then if the horsepower is really lacking, get a 980Ti from the MM later down the line and pop your 980 on there :)

As for 4k @ <30", the PPI really makes anti aliasing negligible in games. I ran 2x MSAA and that was all I needed. 4x was too much power for too little aesthetic gain... Unfortunately, this is something that cannot be witnessed in a screenshot and you will have to play it to experience it for yourself.

I believe 32" is where the PPI is at a more readable standard for 4k without needing the use of DPI scaling and such.

What this guy said :) Treat yourself to a new monitor and maybe pick up a ti along the line

How good are your eyes? :p

28" is good enough if you don't mind using DPI scaling, and if your eyes are amazing you could get away without using DPI scaling, but it won't be good for long term health I'd imagine.

32" would be great if you don't want to use DPI scaling.

I have very good vision but i wish to keep it that way too ;) 32" seems HUGE lol. i use 24" monitors at the moment (i think) will take some getting used too lol.

4k is also huge - Think of it as having four of the 24" monitors you have now, that's the same amount of pixels.

Linus has a video of a 32" UHD monitor here:

I'd keep your 3 monitors and SLI the 980. You've already got a lot of screen real estate and I'm guessing if you upgraded one of the monitors you'd still keep the other two? Then your 980 might struggle a bit on the larger screen.
Plus. Having multiple screens with different vertical resolution is a proper pain in the ass (imo)

TBH kinda fed up having so many as i only really use one at a time. its great for browsing the web etc but no if i got a 32" screen i would just use 1 screen. i dont like gaming with multiple monitors i have got the thinnest borders on the monitors i could find and it still annoys me lol

I only game on one monitor but I've got a second screen for skype, afterburner, task manager etc.
I already had a 1440p monitor so when I upgraded I went for an ultra-wide to keep the same screen height.
I don't suppose you've considered an ultra-wide monitor? I love it. Don't think I could go back to gaming on a 21:9 monitor now :)

From a personal perspective: I love how clean my desk is with just one monitor, I don't think I'll go back to multiple in all honesty. It's also lovely having everything in one place without having to organise them based on where the physical bars separating the monitors are.

Relating back to the op (before I start chanting about how much I love my Dell U3415W... For the 900th time.) - I'd splurge on a monitor first, and if you need the horsepower, get another 980 or upgrade to a 980Ti. You'll get a much more pleasant experience from a monitor than you will an upgrade on a graphics card, especially when you are comparing two top end cards.

If I had a decent card like a 980 I'd go for a new monitor. Something with G-sync if you're green and plan on staying so. The Sync's are meant to be the gaming tech improvement of the decade. I haven't spent any time with it yet so I can't say how much of a difference it made for me but it seems to get the thumbs up, My next purchase is going to be a 3440 x 1440 free-sync monitor. That should be nice to try if you like the extra width that multi-monitor gaming gives. A lot of 3 screen gamers have moved to 21:9.

My problem withthat is im mot loyal to red or green. Im loyal to who ever gives me the best performance, currently its green for me and the games i play (it was when i got my 980 any way. Heat is also a big factor for me so again green is winning the heat war at the moment. But if team red brings out a 980ti performance card with the same heat output and cheaper then i will jump. I guess if i got a gsync monitor i would have no choice but to stay.

Well i think im going to go try a 32inch monitor some where. No idea where will have one on display apart feom currys in the form of a tv lol. But i think your right maybe a 4k 32" is the way forward. However am i going to be dissapointmet with the settings i can run in things like gta? Currently i run the game on maximum settings. And wont be able to at 4k or will the res make up for it ?

You can forget about 8xMSAA on GTA at 4k with one 980Ti, but the resolution is so high you can get away without MSAA or very low 2x/FXAA.

Amen man

For instance the 290/290X is currently the best s/hand value, stunning for the money :)

I say go for the Ti if you can find a s/hand one at a good price ;)

(I have a pair of G1's driving 40in 4k@70hz, stunning man it's awesome)
